NYC Initial Interview
Anyone out there invited to NYC for an initial interview with CP, DESO? I did, a march 30 slot. Trying to get an idea of how many and backgrounds. Anyone interested in sharing information...

I have 4000 hours, mine turbine time is 2800, about 2000 in Dash 8 and the rest in CRJ. Yeah, i got alot books, here's the list...what do you have?

Interview is set for the 12th of March.
Apart from the "easy" interview, there appears to me to be a lot of both good AND bad over at CX. Just my observations from reading this board.
That being said, I've accustomed myself not to read too much into what people who post here are saying about the place.
But it sort of leaves one in a quandry regarding CX, don't you guys agree?
It seems that the routes on the freighter (i.e. U.S. newhires) are a little monotonous.
If one does "advance" to the pax. side, are their only US domiciles LAX and SFO (and of course, HK)?
I still believe that they the top passenger airline in the world and am honored to be called for an interview. But, I wouldn't mind hearing some informative responses by some of our more amiable PPRuNe members...

Right now almost all US based rosters are, Home Base-ANC-HKG-ANC-Home Base. There is the odd SFO stop for LAX based pilot and ORD for NYC based pilots. The monotony is a trade off for the schedule. Currently, I am enjoying 12 straight days at home, without having to take leave. I generally work 2 5-6 day trips a month. The relief commanders trips are a little longer in duration but only 1 and 1/2 to 2 trips a month.
And of course there is always the possibility of new destinations with all of the BCFs and ERFs on order. I have heard grumblings in HK about flights to NA originating out of Shanghai in order to avoid the delay and cost of the cargo transiting HK.

I was called recently for an interview with Cathay in mid-March. I'm at around 6000TT, around 4000 jet, presently a Captain on the B747 Classic. Been working on all the normal books - a friend just took me around Cathay City, it is a nice place. If you all make it through, you should love it (all 4 months of training I mean!)

hey 747 driver...do you know anything about total u.s.direct entry f.o. freighter pay? can one transfer later to say, an australian freighter base?
i am at net jets, year 7. i make about 120 but the great pacific and the 747 are very appealing. are you going to work for cathay and if so what do you think a work week looks like (i.e. where do you go, for how long, etc)? af

I have a DEFO interview in SFO on April 10. Applied in Nov '06 and have updated twice since then. On my last update I had 4500tt, 2300 turbine, 725 PIC turbine. RJ captain at a US regional.

Yes, I can't imagine we annoyed them. They were nice fellows of course. For me, they probably spent 60% of the time on HR with 40% on tech in the interview.
I haven't gotten around to writing down what I was asked, but the tech quiz wasn't too bad, if you studied. A lot of aerodynamic questions among others. The 30 minutes was plenty of time to complete the questions and check your work.
As for the tech questions in the interview - most were expected, the rest were new, but not out of the realm of knowledge if you've been studying.
One note, I think their acceptance rate is lower than in the past - they said if you pass all the phases, class dates by the end of the year or so.
