Cadet Pilots / Co-Pilots (Hong Kong) Full/Part Time
Location Singapore, Description SIA CADET PILOT / CO-PILOT (HONG KONG)

CO-PILOT
- Experience on public transport aircraft, preferably jet powered aircraft
- Minimum Form Seven, GCE ‘A’ level/Polytechnic Diploma or its equivalent. In addition you must have obtained at least 5 Form Six Level credits or its equivalent. These include English, Mathematics and a pure science subject, preferably Physics, taken at one sitting;
- At least 1.65 m in height
- Medically fit with visual acuity of at least 6/60 without optical aids, correctable to 6/6
- Minimum frozen Airline Transport Pilot's License (ATPL) convertible to a Singapore License
- Preference will be given to candidates with higher qualifications and some years of working experience
CADET PILOT
This is an entry level position for candidates who are expected to display a strong interest in aviation.
- University honours degree, preferably in the engineering or pure science disciplines. In addition, you must have obtained at least 5 Form Six/GCE 'O' Level credits or its equivalent. These must include English, Mathematics and a pure science subject, preferably Physics, taken at one sitting;
- At least 1.65 m in height
- Medically fit with visual acuity of at least 6/60 without optical aids, correctable to 6/6
- Preference will be given to candidates with higher qualifications and some years of working experience
TRAINING
CO-PILOT
Depending on your background, your training may include conversion training to one of our aircraft types and, thereafter, Second Officer training prior to appointment as First Officer. Training may be in Singapore and/or overseas.
CADET PILOT
You will spend 15 to 17 months on training to acquire an Airline Transport Pilot’s License (ATPL) with Instrument Rating (IR) at Pilot Training Schools in Singapore and overseas. Full board and lodging will be provided. Upon obtaining the flying license, you will undergo further training for 1 to 2 years to become a First Officer.
REMUNERATION AND SERVICE BENEFITS
A monthly allowance will be provided during training. On appointment as a First Officer, you will be paid a basic salary and various allowances. Fringe benefits, including medical and dental treatment and discounted travel, will also be offered.
BOND
Successful candidates will be required to serve the employer company for the duration of the training for a period of 7 years from the date of appointment as First Officer.
EMPLOYMENT
Successful candidates will be offered employment with one of the companies in the SIA Group:
- Singapore Airlines
- Singapore Airlines Cargo
- SilkAir

Anyone studied a degree in SG or know a friend that studies there? I was wondering if SG universities offer honours with graduation score above a certain %. In australia-melbourne there are 2 types of honours depending on which university, one where u graduate as basically top 15% of the class, the other requires studying an additional year or two. Just appears odd that honours will be required for cadet O_o especially if it is in the form of additional studying.
SIA interviewed some people from the last ad in May 2006 iirc anyone know how many got into the program? Seems awfully fast between recruitment for a non local carrier.

Im 17 too and going through Cathay Interviews, You should send in an application, even if SIA or whoever you may wanna apply for think you are too young it never hurts to show your enthusiasm. See what happens, i tried and got accepted so...

Hi bjbb, I wish I could apply for CX but my application for an HKId was rejected. On those terms CX would not hire me anyway unless I was direct entry SO/FO/Capt. I've already talked to Belinda from CX Flight Deck Recruitment on the phone and also the chief pilot on 744's who both suggest I try CX later in life (when they can sponsor my 'visa') The most annoying thing is... if I did my HKID before the 97' handover, I would have got an HKID

I reckon I'm in a slightly similar situation to yourself. I tried applying for a HKID card via the post last summer. My mother holds an ID card, but I have to go to HK to sit around for a month or two before they will consider my application.
Why were you rejected? were you in HK when you applied and do your parents hold an ID card?
Its great to see that bit about Cathay possibly sponsoring a visa, not sure how you go about it though. Any info that you have would be much appreciated!

Hello,
My parents were both born in Hong Kong and hold HKID's. I went to HK last summer to apply in person, it got rejected immediately because my parents had British Passports when I was born, apparently, that makes me fully British!
I would have to get some commercial experience up to a few thousand hours then apply to CX. I would work as an ex pat in hk. They can't give me a visa as a cadet for some reason but they can if you are a direct entry SO/Fo/capt

Slightly off thread i know, but can you apply to the SIA cadet scheme while living in the UK?
Is it worth applying anyway? The only way i'm gonna get my licence is through sponsorship and i just want to give myself as many chances as possible.
Any thoughts/suggestions much appreciated

I have heard of pple from HK getting into the SIA cadet while residing in Canada, so as long as you are a HK citizen, I guess it won't matter where your physical location is.
In general, I don't know if SIA is very flexible regarding scheduling your interviews and all that. I also believe the medical checks/expenses are on the candidate (please correct me if I were wrong).

That's not a problem at all. Both parents were born in HK and lost there HKID when they changed to Dutch. After that, they reapplied and got their HKID again. I was born in the Netherlands and also got my HKID (after 97).
