Progression on the passenger fleet?

Hi there, am I correct in my understanding that once upgraded from S/O to JF/O most guys transition onto the A330 or 777 for some shorter-haul flying to build more experience by flying more sectors? If this is correct, how hard is it for one to get back onto either the A340 or -400 somewhere down the road (if you wanted to take a basing at some point, for instance)?

The A340 will come automatically about 12-18 months after you start your JFO course on the A330 i.e. CCQ. Going from the B777 to the B747 in the next few years may be a little more difficult as the B777 will be the big expansion fleet and they may be a little reluctant to let you go to the -400. Lately though they have been dragging guys off both the Airbus and B777 fleet as they expand with the second hand -400 and -400BCF’s.
