typical roster

typical roster is something like this:

3-4 trips per month

each trip about 3-5 days long depending on destination.

between trips, you can get anywhere from 3-12 days off in a row. It depends on where you are going or where you have been. For example. Last month I did 2 trips to Aukland, with 3 days off in between, then a trip to New York followed by 13 days off.

On average I would say 6 days off is common.

Destinations on the A340 are: London, Aukland, Sydney, New York, Vancouver, Rome, Amsterdam, Johannesburg. This is not the full list, only the ones i've been too or know of through friends. The destinations change with the season as well. We go to Rome in Europe winter (not going there now), J'Burg in Sth Hemisphere winter.

are you able to switch some flights to get more time off in a row if you needed it?

you can create a mutual exchange will able you stop swap flights as long as the usual flight hrs days off etc etc are ok. be careful as they will not pay OT if you go over contacted hours due to a swap.

commuting

Just wondering if there are any SO's who commute from HKG to YVR? Is it possible? Is it practical? Or is it just not worth the head ach? Thanks!

it is possible but not practical, as a matter of fact, FL crews may request "request only" their roster style (i.e. super compact/compact or normal). for anyone who wish to work for cx, better settle in HKG. in addition, the roster for airbus S/Os are trend to be more busier than those B744 S/Os at this moment after "CCQ-ed" on A330/340.
