Angry Help!!! I need to reschedule my First CX Interview

Hello!!

I have a big problem. After 2.5 years of applying and updating to Cathay, I was finally called for a DESO interview in August. Needless to say, I was ecstatic. Three days later I was offered a class date with another airline that I've been pursuing for several months. I am currently furloughed and need the work. The new-hire training will make it impossible for me to attend the interview as scheduled. I have tried to see if the new job would allow me to miss class, but they say they cannot.

What can/should I do?

How does CX feel about rescheduling? Common sense would dictate that they would obiviously understand that things come up, but I don't want to give them the idea that I'm not completely committed...If there were absolutely anything I could do short of not taking the new job, I would. That's not really an option for me as I really need the job right now (I have people to feed!).

How do I best explain this to them? Does anybody know their interview schedule for the next few months...when/where? The new job will take me far from the original interview site...how do they feel about changing locations as well?

Also, how will they feel about my interviewing just as I have started training with another carrier? I don't want them to see me as disloyal because all I've ever really wanted was to work for CX. I just need to be working right now. I hope they can see my desire to work for them by my application date (2.5 years ago.)

If anyone has ben through this or something similar or just has some ideas I would really appreciate the input. As always, many thanks.

I don't know if this is the way to handle it but a friend of mine also got a call after comitting to another airline. He called pilot recruiting and asked to have his application put on hold and explained his situation. They were ok with it and as a matter of fact they just invited him for an interview again. It has been about a year since his initial invitation and he simply called them up again resently and let them know he was available.

I agree; be honest, explain you cant get out of work commitments.. it shows loyalty and honesty. If you lie and they find out, forget about having a job at CX

On file for more than 5 years. Was invited in 2002 but could not make it, despite regular updates I have not been invited a second time.
