Yep flat on it back. Fell vertically nose down out of the tree onto the ground and fell on its back from there. Kicked the windscreen out and wriggled through. I guess you could kick the panel shade...

Hi Leadbaloon, that’s not right.
In the RV9a accident near Albany WA the pilot, a large guy, and his wife got out through the gap under the panel and over the roll bar, so it definitely can be done....

Too early for any certainty but going by other RV7 inflight breakup reports on the USA NTSB website the wreckage distribution would suggest that the tailplane, rudder or elevators, is first to fail....

Not the first C210 to have a wing breakup in flight. Check out the ATSB report on VH-DJT in 1976. The accident reports have a striking similarity and similar witness reports.

In-flight break-up involving Cessna 210B, VH-DBU, 30 km NW of Albany Airport, WA

The ATSB have just released the preliminary report into this C210 accident. Well worth a read.
Very sad event, shows you don't need bad weather to have an inflight breakup. It was a beautiful day...

ATSB have just released the preliminary report into the C210 breakup inflight at Albany WA, the same week as the NT C210 accident.

VALE Captain David Ferguson

Captain David Ferguson, pilot with Ansett from 1963 to 1989 based in Melbourne. Later with Singapore Air on B747s.
David passed away on Friday 6th of February 2015.
