The best place to find nice powerful magnets is inside a disk drive so I do not think you will have much luck that way!
If it is making that much noise then it will not be easy to recover the data...

Get hold of an old hard disk (something like a 10GB), add it to your machine and use it for the swap file only. This will reduce disk contention and speed thing up (with a bit of luck!).
