Many thanks for the above. The only additional information that I can share is that I managed to find out that CAT is also approved for doing the ground school in Cranfield aswell.

I'm planning on doing the EIR (distance learning) but the problem is finding a school who has been approved in the UK. I have sent an email to the CAA but I would rather not wait the 18 working days...

Do you need to clear customs?? If you do then Kloten is your easiest option if you want to got the city. Otherwise there are 1 or 2 smaller airports close by but then it all depends on what runway...

I did all of my training in Calais a few years ago. It was a great place to learn. You could do NDB, ILS approaches all day long if you wanted. It was as cheap as chips!! Talking of chips is the Cafe...

So we are agreed, that even if the valley floor is obscured by cloud / fog but 1) the mountains are visible and 2) you are of course abv the cloud / fog that you are still leagally flying under VFR...
