Post Australian Aviation Psychology Symposium

The 6th Australian Aviation Psychology International Symposium to be held in Sydney during December 2003.

Its an opportunity to hear presentations by both Professor James Reason (Uni of Manchester) and Professor Bob Helmreich (Uni of Texas, Austin).

Captain Dan Maurino (Flight Safety and Human Factors program, ICAO) is also presenting. His concepts have formed the basis of the Line operational Safety Audit (LOSA) and will provide a good contrast to Reason's organisational accident and Heilmrich's "let the Captains' get back to being captains' ". Maurino's concepts consist of examining the workings and compromises in the multitude of day to day line operations in understanding human factors..ie.."lets see what works". So we have the retrospectivity of Reason, the currency of Heilmreich and the excellent pragmatism of Maurino. (excuse clumsy concept summaries)

I have attached one of Maurino's papers..mainly relating to maintenance, but of course implications for cabin safety and
technical crew.
