Safety Cards

Just travelled with BA franchiser, Sun-Air from Manchester and noticed that their Safety Cards in the seat pocket was located behind their in-flight Magazine.
I have never seen that arrangement before on any airline and asked the cabincrew.
According to her and the information she had, there are no regulation stating that the safety card should be in front of all other items in the seat pocket.
Does anyone know if this is the case or if e.g. ICAO have any guidelines?
I have, since my first day in aviation some 30 years ago always been told: SAFETY FIRST!

I don't know the answer - but it's not my area of specialism.

And I don't mean to sound disrespectful but if your profile is correct and you really are a B777 captain, I would expect you to know.

If there is a regulation or company policy/procedure on the subject, surely you - as the commander of the aircraft - would be aware because you have a responsibility to ensure that the aircraft is 'legal'.

But to answer the question in broad terms, the SARPs require passengers to be made familiar with the location and use of seat belts, emergency exits, life jackets (if the carriage of life jackets is prescribed), oxygen dispensing equipment (if the provision of oxygen for the use of passengers is prescribed), and other emergency equipment provided for individual use, including passenger emergency briefing cards.

An AOC-holder is also required to provide assurance (or something to that effect) that a card is adequate and no doubt most regulatory authorities will require lots more on the topic in the Ops Manual.

I hope this helps - Annex 6 is probably a good starting point for further reading.....

Sorry. It's been a bad day.

Safety Cards

Thanks Spitoon,
In our company we're very specific about this. Safety Card first in the seat pocket. Same thing applied at my previous job. (Leisure)
I've jsut talked to our FSO about it and according to him there is no requirements how the information is displayed.
There is no doubt that the safety cards has to be there.

Regarding my responsibility and demand of knowledge as Captain, I must be humble and admit that I do not know all regulations and guidlines that is involved in operating a triple 7. (Just come back from 6 yrs of 747) I have the pleasure to work togehter with a great team of proffessionals and they all have their areas of competance, leading to a safe and pleasant time at work.
Hope you'll have a better tomorrow than today.
Rgds,

In our mob, the minimum requirement is that there is one safety card per block of seats. It will be placed in such a position as to be reachable by anybody sitting in that block. Its precise position is not specified. However, the spec. given to cleaners is that there will be one per seat pocket. The seat contents will be arranged (furthest to nearest) inflight magazine, safety card and sick bag. We also carry spares of each - you don't want to be grounded because of memento hunters.
