Cockpit naps - rules®ulations
Dear all,
as far as I know cockpit naps are currently prohibited in the US despite the excellent research conducted by NASA/Ames.
Does anyone know if there are any rules®ulations governing naps in Europe? My understanding is that it is not prohibited, and therefore allowed?
Also, what is the status in the US? Is there any progress in making it legal?
Your insights will be greatly appreciated!

During all phases of flight each flight crew member required to be on flight deck duty shall remain alert. If a lack
of alertness is encountered, appropriate countermeasures shall be used. If unexpected fatigue is experienced a controlled
rest procedure, organised by the commander, can be used if workload permits. Controlled rest taken in
this way may never be considered to be part of a rest period for purposes of calculating flight time limitations nor
used to justify any duty period.

It is just a little confusing, isn't it? I refer you to the post (#18) by Denti here. I guess unless you have some local bar on this in national regulations, yes it is 'legal' (and certainly sensible)..
