MONTREAL (Reuters) - An international aviation team has been activated to support “effective coordination and communication” between airlines and countries as tensions mount in the Middle East after a U.S. drone strike killed an Iranian military commander, global airlines body IATA said on Tuesday.

Another issue for Travel safety is that the Cunard liner RMS Queen Mary 2 sets off on her World cruise on 10 JAN from Southampton sailing down the MED, through the Suez canal, with planned calls at Aqaba, Muscat and Oman,
then she sails up the Gulf to Dubai where she is to embark 1600 more pax flying in to DXB to join the ship on its way to Australia...
The UK have sent 2 more Destroyers to the area to protect British interests in the Gulf area - The Ship (QM2) is a huge UK asset and carries 2400 pax plus 1000 crew.
She flies under the Red Ensign and ship is registered in Bermuda (a B.O.T.)
Cunard is a UK and USA brand, owned by Carnival Corp (USA)

Iran + Hezbollah has publicly advised that it will attack Dubai and Haifa if US retaliates against Iran to this morning's attacks on the US Army bases in Iraq...

I don't foresee an Iranian attack on any civilian assets or people, though oil tankers are probably not entirely civilian enough to be excluded. There is not a single advantage to expanding to passenger ships or into distant countries. They have a clear interest in the US withdrawal from Iraq but without intentional loss of foreign lives. Their cohorts in the region may not be as careful, but the way to make someone go away is to make it cost too much to stay there without making them angry enough to stay and fight.
This is in contrast to Al Queda, which wanted the Americans to come in with such military force and do so much damage that all the Islamic nations would unite and throw the Americans out permanently. Certain aspects of that terrible plan worked, but the ultimate goal failed as the Saudis and others find their financial relationship with the West more valuable than their religious ties to other countries.
This situation might be taken as an opportunity for the Al Queda affiliates to make attacks. Curiously, it's in Iran's interest to stop them for the time being.
In the mean time, Iran's threat against Haifa means the Israelis are going to be kept busy in that area setting up evacuation plans and making workers and the University there pretty nervous without having to fire a single missile. From the Haifa Wikipedia page "The common Israeli saying, "Haifa works, Jerusalem prays, and Tel Aviv plays" attests to Haifa's reputation as a city of workers and industry". So yeah. Wanna cause some hurt? Threaten the money, not the people.
