As good as the service is, 9W does not have the support of the Indian Government. So it will probably be gone by next week.
Between the basket-case national carriers on the sub-continent and the Gulf sisters across the water, Jet doesn't stand a chance.

Far superior... ? I have had the misfortune to use both regularly on domestic and regional routes, I did not notice much difference, but perhaps AI was marginally better on punctuality and airport facilities (on board they were pretty much the same).

On almost every flight we'd have to boot deadheading pilots out of the Business Class seats we'd booked which normally caused an argument. Always felt guilty as they usually looked knackered and were only trying to find somewhere to grab an hours kip
Granted this was about 15 years ago so things may have improved since then but the cleanliness, staff attitudes and punctuality were really quite poor from my recollection of them in the early 2,000's.
For all those affected though I hope a positive resolution can be found.

$1.2 Billion in Debt, another $3.0 billion in outstanding bill payments (Fuel 4 months salaries, Lessor charges, ground handling etc), a general election in progress with the main theme being crony capitalism, a promoter who with his savvy connections for the better part of 20 years created giant speed bumps in the industry for competition as well an environment that has one of the highest costs with one of the lowest per revenue seat yields & a government with red tape by the ton...it is very hard for anyone to even consider resurrecting this airline. They could start one afresh for a 10th of that amount with no baggage.
Having said that they did usher in a better service standard but lost the plot in 2008 when they had a hair brained scheme to buy a low cost & merge them. Having flown them a million miles sorry to see them go but glad the name when it goes will be untarnished by a hull write off or any loss of life.

Well, sorry to burst your bubble, but they wrote of at least 1 ATR I’d not 2 and possibly a 737. Having said that, sad to see them go - worked there for a while and they treated me well

Nothing sad Indian banks are reeling under non performing assets. They should have blown the whistle earlier. Jetairways made profit only in two years out of last eleven. The reality:

Kingfisher, Air India- the biggest of all, but keeps trading, Air Costa, Paramount, Deccan, Spice jet- died but resurrected, and many others.
Killed by the reluctance of Indians to pay one extra rupee for a better product, or quicker service.
Poisoned by the truly awful DGCA, who put the CAA to shame as an airline strangler.
Still, Indigo and Vistara are doing nicely. Soon the Indians will have no choice but pay up, or don't go.

The sad thing about airlines going down the toilet in India, is that when salaries start coming late, the locals keep working- inexplicably.
As things get worse, salaries get later and later, then stop coming at all.
When the firm finally goes 'tits up' the employees have been working for months for no wages, often owed up to six months.
It happens this way every single time.

Not really a surprise. How anybody can run a business in such an environment like India is beyond me. The country is so crippled by bureaucracy and useless regulation that it is crumbling in every aspect. I’ve seen war zones in better shape than walking around even the wealthiest parts of their big cities like Delhi and Mumbai.
The incredible part is how tolerant the Indians are of this. They are unfazed and seem completely oblivious by their surroundings.
Proponents of big government should go and spend a day or two in India to show them how bigger government only cripples a nation.
Best of luck to Jet Airways staff. If you can, try and get out of India.
