Grooan-A 787 fire in OVEN in flight
scary- but was put out-
Boeing 787 Dreamliner Oven On Fire - Business Insider
Alex Davies Jul. 25, 2013, 4:10 PM
A fire broke out in the oven of an Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner jet in mid-flight Wednesday, scaring passengers but not causing any serious damage. Mint, an Indian Newspaper associated with the Wall Street Journal, reported the fire started on Flight AI-020, from Delhi to Kolkata, and that it did not affect areas outside the oven. The crew put it out with fire extinguishers.
The oven in question was removed after landing and the plane has returned to service, according to the Post and Courier.
"We are aware of the event and are working with the customer," a Boeing spokesperson said, declining to comment further.
This is far from the very serious lithium-ion battery issues that plagued the Dreamliner earlier this year, and led federal aviation officials to ground the plane for several months.
Nor is it as worrying as the fire that broke out on an empty Dreamliner at London's Heathrow Airport on July 12. Investigators traced the flames to the plane's Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT). Today, the FAA instructed airlines to remove or inspect ELTs on 787s.
Nonetheless, it's a good bet that Boeing is tired of seeing the term "fire" associated with its new plane.
Despite a spate of incidents involving Boeing planes, including the deadly crash landing of Asiana Flight 214 in San Francisco on July 6, the plane maker beat earning expectations and saw its stock jump when it released its financial results Wednesday.

Oven fires - probably at least one, if not more, every day, ranging from forgotten food to a dirty oven smoking due residue. Even had a case of a FA's handbag going up once, she was very new and had put it in an empty oven for safe keeping whilst she did aircraft prep. and someone switched the ovens on!

Too much mindless sensationalism on every single incident with the Boeing 787. Airbus and its fans and friends in the media are enjoying this way too much.
With that said, I really hope Boeing 787 don't end up like the Comet: a great innovation in aviation but by not fully understanding new technology (as in Comet's case not fully knowing the extend of metal fatigue), ended up playing with fire....

There's no point jumping to conclusions until we know the cause of the fire.
If it was caused by carelessness then it is no fault of the plane. However, there have been plenty of documented issues possibly related to the 787's electrical system and humidity, including the galleys and toilets on the Thompson 787 return to Manchester. If it IS another electrical fault that will be very bad for the 787's reputation.

Overheat of warming oven ??
Air India Ltd., the nation’s only operator of Boeing Co. (BA)’s 787, said an oven for warming food on a Dreamliner overheated during a domestic flight, prompting the crew to take measures to contain smoke.
The oven’s overheating on the flight from New Delhi to the eastern city of Kolkata on July 24 didn’t cause a fire, Air India spokesman G. Prasada Rao said by telephone today. The flight was not diverted because of the incident and the aircraft continues to be in service, he said. . .
Those high tech gadgets like warming ovens have only been around for a few decades in aircraft-
Maybe the electrons have turned into bozons ??

787 Again?
I have to sympathize with Boeing here. If this incident report did not include "787" in the title or narrative, it would never see the light of day, beyond year-end statistical reports. Smoking and even burning ovens are a near daily event in the industry and crews deal with them via very ordinary SOPs: Chop the galley power extinguish the fire, reassure the passengers and (usually) continue the flight with a cold galley. Save the aircraft type, this event has nothing in common with the recent rear cabin fire at LH, possibly attributed to the rear ELT. Boeing and the oven maker will certainly look into it, but this does not qualify as News. Let's move on.
