Eygpt overrun FRA
It seems there are massive delays at FRA this evening due to an Eygptair aircraft overrunning the runway causing single runway ops. No further details yet known. Hope all ok.
No facts out yet, and people are 'not surprised' <img src="rolleyes.gif" border="0">
Plenty of over runs in other airlines we might think are pretty good .... QANTAS, Southwest, and more than a few UK and European ones too.
Let's see what happened before we throw stones in glass houses.

Likely to be irelevant, but....
FRA 'Director' hold my 'personal best' for a speed request from an ATCO.
We were asked, whilst flying a 757, to "Please maintain 200kts to 4 dme"
When we said that would not be possible, we were laughed at.
Good job 'we' have an S.O.P. that helps to avoid these sort of incidents.....

They once asked me to go as FAST AS POSSIBLE for as long as possible - this was after 30 mins in the hold. Since the Jumbolina can slow down in the blink of an eye, we went fast (well as fast as the poor aircraft can). When we landed we were then stuck behind a RAM 737 which had been told to taxi as SLOW AS POSSIBLE. It was like a single lane road behind a caravan.....with a LH 747 stuck behind us and so on.
Actually its quite funny when I think of it.
Still overrunning at FRA is really impressive. Did they have a problem???

Magnus,
I agree 200 kts to 4DME is a bit much, but given fine WX, CLR, CALM, that sort of thing, even I could do it, although relucantly, in my B763.
Our policy calls for speed, pitch, power, heading stabilized @ 500ft. What's your company policy? I know some US carriers are requird to be stabilized @ 1000 ft in IFR conditions.
