Angry Parking Nazis out at MAN

I've just got a £30 ticket for parking outside Tower Road for less than two minutes. Normally I would take it on the chin but the Staff parking at MAN is appalling (try finding a space at the railway anytime after 7 am). What with the closure of "Fast Track" for staff, how long before the Airlines actually kick off and let Muirhead and his cronies know exactly who provides the passengers for his train set.....

763jock,

Fatal mistake abandoning a car in Tower Road especially when en route from T1 to Police Station - really you should know better - there are lots of signs telling you not to and you, more than most, should be aware of the security implications of abandoned cars at international airports. After all, what exactly does a terrorist or car bomb look like. (I know if MAPLC had their way there would be guys in camoflage with high vizs that say " Duty Terrorist " or "Car Bomb Co-Ordinator ".)

I have seen first hand the effects of a car bomb and believe me it is not a pretty sight. A good terrorist makes his device look as innocent as possible. The only deterent is to enforce the parking regulations.

As someone who has to work in Tower Road (actually International Approach) and try to park coaches for HOTAcs, delays and diversions, abandoned cars are a complete nuisance and I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank the wardens and police officers for their support in helping us to move disrupted and delayed passengers.

And if you think the wardens are nasty.....watch out for the clampers on the Pay & Display Car Parks - no warnings or " can you move it" just a bright yellow clamp !

I know I will probably get flack for my comments but remember (and here goes a mega old topic) the wardens keep the traffic moving and are part of the team that helps to get aircraft flying.

Cars parked everywhere = grid-locked roads = crews cannot get to work = pax can't check-in = aircraft can't fly.

Suggest you pay the £30 and don't do it again !

Bill the Coach---
Move over Bill, no doubt I will get the incoming for this "problem" as well......when will PILOTS (who, lets face it) can AFFORD your limo service to the airport, EVER LEARN that parking your own private motorcar at MAN airport is a waste of time.
Listen guys...WAKE UP. Bill offers a great service and if you don't even attempt to use it, you deserve that parking fine.
Bill's service is second to none. Period!

Perhaps "Bill the Coach" could provide frequent services from the various villages around the area and the airport to get there at 5:30am?! Oh and could he make it reasonable priced aswell?

Large Jet,

The answer is we can do whatever you want, whenever you want, wherever you want whether it's for 1 or for a 1,000 !

411A, Thanks for your support !

BillTheCoach,
And in what way will the blue ticket on the windscreen prevent a bomb going off?
I think I would have towed it away to a secluded area and performed a controlled explosion

I think the point everyone is missing is that double yellow lines mean no parking. Anyone who thinks that this means for everyone except them is a prat and deserves a parking ticket. Anyone who thinks "I'm aircrew so it can't mean me " is also in the same category. If you work at MAN you should know the policy of the traffic nazis and not tempt fate.

And yes, I expect flak for this too!!

Well, if you think the Manchester parking police are Nazi's, then you should try Gatwick's.

They are all ex-Gestapo instructors.

Like I said, I would normally take it on the chin but the staff car park was overflowing at the time. Surely any terrorist would park his car bomb in the short stay which is integral to the terminal building hence ensuring maximum effect?

763Jock----
In other words, the "no parking" does not apply to ME because....."I am a pilot" and therefore, above the law?

Dear 411A.
Why do you assume that flight crew think that they are above the law?? I was cheesed off because the space in the staff car park that my employer pays for could not be used as there is WIP (more buildings=less parking). There are hundreds of staff who work in Tower Road and I'm sure that they like me do not consider themselves above the law. If you have a problem with pilots as a group why enter this forum?

Humph! I parked my car for 20 minutes in Compass Centre Car Park LHR, came back and it was clamped and stickered.....At least the fifteen quid fine (deducted from salary!) went to a good cause, "Dreamflight"....cant say the same about how the Yellow striped Parking Vultures will spend the fine! Parking is always a problem....
