Interesting. I heard the other day that this happened recently to a Virgin Nigeria plane (don't know the type) on landing at LGW.

The mate who told me said the plane had to wait for firecrews to check it out before it could start taxying to the stand and that this was compulsory in an incident where the brakes lock. This of course created a bit of a problem with the plane remaining on the runway.

Can someone confirm that a) this did happen recently and that b) it is compulsory for the plane not to move until its been given the once over by firefighters.

Apparently a Corsair A330 (the picture shows TUI/Arkefly livery) scheduled for a military charterflight later today. Plane landed safely at 0945 local time, 15 firetrucks were at the scene after a crash call (from the article).

It supposedly now was an emergency landing due to an overheated engine. As far as I know A330īs donīt normally visit Eindhoven airport. Iīm still curious as to who the operator / airline is.

I think the main consideration is not to bring the plane up close to the terminal or any concentration of people until the danger of a tire exploding has passed. If they had to stay on the runway to avoid exposing the public to a dangerous situation, so be it. Usually, you can move off the runway to a remote location. This may not have been the case.

Virgin Nigeria operate 767 equipment. Always prudent to have an external inspection before taxy , if had any gear related problem on landing.

The original article in Dutch already mentioned an "overheated engine", and not a word about brakes.

The other links are now all '404', but presumably with the same info.

Mr. Hurkemmer, I take it they don't teach Dutch on Mars.... ?
Or were you translating from an earlier version of the press report, that then got modified? In view of your user name, I suppose the latter.....
