Interesting note from the Qatari Gulf Times over the weekend:
"GULF Air is not the only airline that faces crisis in the aviation industry, HE Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiyah, the Minister of Energy and Industry and a member of the airline’s board of directors, said yesterday.
The aviation industry in general was facing a difficult situation, he told Gulf Times yesterday.
Qatar holds a 25% stake in Gulf Air. The other shareholders are Oman, Bahrain and Abu Dhabi.
He said an international consultant had already been appointed to bring more efficiency into the airline. The consultant would restructure and assess the performance of the company and monitor revenues to improve the bottomline.
Al-Attiyah denied reports in a section of the newspapers (not Gulf Times or Arrayah, its sister Arabic daily) that Qatar had proposed the name of Abdul Aziz al-Nuaimi, former director of Civil Aviation, for the Gulf Air chief executive’s post.
“We did not propose anyone’s name. The post of the chief executive would be filled by the board of directors,” he said."
