United triple 7 in Paris CDG, any one knows what happened ?

Heard of a United airlines 777 with slides inflated, passengers on the ground and firemen around today at Charles de Gaulle airport.

Does anyone have an idea of the facts ?

For non French speakers, "toboggan" is just the standard word for "slide". You'd use it also for the slides in the park your kids play on. In the landing ritual of Air France the last call the FC makes to the CC on landing is "derniere virage, desarmer les toboggans" just as they swing into the gate.

And why does AF 'desarmer les toboggans' during the last turn, and not at the gate? Is it perhaps to avoid inadvertently slide deployment with stairs/gate attached?

Seems sensible. It's exactly what BA does too. Except we do it in English.

Hi - I'm not an airline professional, but je sais parler francais.

A United Airlines jet had to be evacuated just before takeoff at CDG after one of its tires lit on fire on the runway

The airplane, a Boeing 777-200 on its way from CDG to Dulles International, was lined up on the runway ready to leave around 11:30am local time when suddenly (warning lights came on?) and the crew ordered the evacuation of the passengers through the emergency exit slides.

The airplane was surrounded by emergency crews shortly thereafter and firemen put out the fire in the tires. The passengers were evacuated and transferred to the airport terminal. The cause of the fire was not immediately known.

Snake

Disarming is only a precaution and commonality of procedure, as on the 777 should you be silly enough to open an armed door from the outside, it will automatically disarm.
