I'll do my best to explain my point of view... (bear in mind that english aint my mother tongue)
Well, it doesn't matter wether they'll be affected or not by those new conditions. If belfast pilots would be "cheaper" that indirectly affect "dublin pilots" because for the company it would be better to fly a certain route with belfast pilots than with dublin pilots. In the end, it gives the company resourses to degrade working conditions on the main base...
I must say that I'm not familiar with the situation... All I know about it is what I red in this thread... so feel free to correct me if i'm wrong...
It is my impression, correct me if I am wrong, that unless these pilots decide to be based at belfast, that these new conditions do not even affect them. Yet they are willing to put their jobs on the line for others.

Curser,
Thank you for your kind words. I left Ireland in 1993 and would now like to return. Somebody once wrote that he felt the same way about the EI dispute and supported the union , but he stated that, "his wife just wants home" . This was his justification to defy the IALPA ban and stick an application in. I wonder if he is now one of the "secret 7" ?
I know how he felt, believe me. But as a person who has both airline senior management and union rep experience, I know that it is quite wrong to apply for, attend and accept a DE Left Hand Seat knowing that there are lots of SFO'S ready for command and willing to accept a base change.
By all means, if any of the secret 7 requested a position in the RHS and joined the bottom of the seniorority list, I am sure the rest of the workforce including TRI/TRE'S would welcome them with open arms and therefore put to rest any CRM and safety issues which otherwise may arise.
I suppose I have lined my self up to be shot down with this post, but I really feel that the people who applyed for these jobs have damaged the industry as a whole.

Hi,
I think that now that the issue's have been resolved, it may be possible that SFO'S ready for command and willing to accept a base change will now lose out on a command opportunity, due to the fact that 7 Command posts have now been filled externally. This clearly will lead to frustrations amongst SFO'S.
You would never see the likes of BA, TCX, TUI or any other decent company hiring external direct entry commands whilst they already have guys/gals ready for progression.
However, perhaps there will be enough command positions available to satisfy all suitably qualified internal applicants and in that case, there won't be a problem.
Hope this helps.

Tfly took DECs on the B737 for the simple reason that a large number of Command suitable F/Os exercised their right to stay on the 757/767; also, in the early stages of the the B737 acquisitions, the Command vacancies were at "unpopular" bases.
