Neither. Premeditated greed.

Why do you think it was the airport operators (pretending it was "all for security" and "we know best") who lobbied the governments so strongly for the tighter security regulations, which lead to you having many items confiscated at their security which you can then immediately buy again in their monopoly shops at 200% of High Street prices.

Idle reflection

I wonder if there are any correspondents in common between this thread and the ones where passengers are lampooned for their laypersons perspective on how flights should be operated.

If flying regularly doesn't qualify one to comment on how planes are flown, why does passing through airport security make one an expert on how to keep airports safe?

TV documentary on idle scroungers running airport security search - believable, searing endictment. TV documentary about poor standards of aviation safety, impact of air travel on the environment etc, bl**dy journos manufacturing scare stories.

fortuna76, interesting observations, not unique, but I don't believe anyone has dared tell in such clarity recently. I do hope the CAA and DoT are reading this thread carefully.

Isn't there an "OF....." something or other, that we can complain to/ Monopolies commission?

At least Dick Turpin wore a Mask and a Cocked hat.
These Barstewards seem to be invisible.

Gonzo: As touched on by someone else, this is possibly related to moving from a Controlled Zone into a Restricted Zone. Here at Essex Airport (STN), tug crews are supposed to be searched when they complete their tow in the Restricted Zone. I'm not convinced though that the same rules apply to the engineer riding the brakes, and certainly doesn't apply to the aircraft (nor the tug it appears).
