Post Near miss MAN Mon 23/4?

What's all this in the local `rag' (Knutsford Guardian) and Saturday's Daily Mail about a `near miss' at MAN on Monday 23rd April. Two controllers relieved from duty, CAA investigation etc (according to the paper). BA doing simultaneous departures runway 1 & 2, if all is to be believed.
Any local drivers, controllers care to comment?

Beware of anyone using the emotive, meaningless and journalistic term "near miss."

Red face

Sounds as if a few journo`s out there are trying to make a mark for themselves. A little knowledge is dangerous!

Question

Can't agree more. Journalistic license can be a dangerous thing.

Must ask though, was this the first time that mixed mode operations had been used?

Assuming that the Geneva flight was a EMB-145 then presumably it would have been doing a Conga rather than a Honiley SID and so the two aircraft - the other was a DHC-8 operating to Edinburgh - would have been on diverging courses after only 1 mile.

Sadly seems as if the whole thing has probably been blown well out of proportion.

Wink

...'journo comment' noted.... anyway, shouldn't this kind of thing be referred to in layman's terms as a near hit....(!)

Question

But isn't the point here that the two runways are not certified for simultanious operations, therefore any incident of this sort is going to alert interest?
