Post BALPA and Ryanair

I heard that the Balpa recognition ballot at Ryanair was not carried. Anyone out there know if this is true?

yeah its true- notice just circulated to all pilots which states that:

"less than 20% of pilots voted for BALPA with an overwhelming majority of pilots in the UK rejecting BALPA recognition"

There hasn't been a formal independent secret ballot of UK based Ryanair pilots with regard to BALPA recognition.

I think that perhaps it might be the result of MOL's straight to the point speech about life, or the lack of it, for London pilots should they vote BALPA in. A die-hard lifelong BALPA member told me he voted "no" for fear of what would happen to his job prospects. And he was a Captain. Also know some didn't vote at all as there seemed little point. Caught between a rock and a hard place. Be interesting to see the rewards for the troops now that the requested decision has been made.

Not Formal?

An independent ballot organised by the Central Arbitration Committee and carried out by The Electoral Reform Services.

18% regardless of your nationality is pathetic.

c.20% does seem incredibly low. Would any of the fast-taxi people care to provide the background to this result….

Unhappy

Simple enough, really.

BALPA looked for automatic recognition based on 50%+ of the plot body in membership (116 out of 205) or suchlike. MOL then changed the goal posts and declared the non type rated trainees to be "UK based pilots" thus lifting the target population to 250. Unfortunately, the CAC fell for this line. As 116/250 is less than 50%, automatic recognition was not granted. We got a secret ballot instead.

Sadly, sadly, sadly, the simple act of ticking a ballot paper in the privacy and anonymity of one's own home and returning same via the postal system proved too courageous for most. Well done to the brave 18%. Whilst intimidation and bullying were rife, it does not take away from the simple fact that the solution was in pilots own hands.

And we made a bo!!ocks of it!

Too depressed to write any more.

Red face

Yes 20% is very low. But we are lucky in Ryanair. At least BALPA showed us their true colours before they got in. They showed us that they are useless to us. Numerous pages of information from the company, or disinformation as you may see it, visit from M.O`Leary to rally the troops, Bilko speaking to all pilots about the situation. Very good campaign by Ryanair.

From Balpa......... nothing except a stupid bleating wee will show them if we lose letter two days before the ballot to state, WE DID NOT KNOW THE BALLOT WAS HAPPENING. Well BALPA if you read this here is a message from a member, who pays you cash each month.

IF YOU HAD THE SLIGHTEST TINY LITTLE BIT OF INTEREST IN RYANAIRS PILOTS YOU WOULD HAVE KNOW. We all knew. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

So you are where you belong, out in the
cold.

Angry

FOPaddy,

Tempting and all as it is to blame BALPA, where does this get us? I repeat, the solution to this was in the hands of the pilot body.....and we chickened out. No point blaming BALPA/IALPA/OLeary/Bin Laden/NonEU pilots or whoever else can be fingered. This was soleley in the hands of the pilot body. Just like in DUB last year, when we pulled back from a strike with 24 hours to go? OLeary must be laughing his @rse off.

Where do we go from here?

Bright CONSTRUCTIVE ideas wanted, please?
