(Frankfurt) Hahn
According to the news wires the Cologne regional court have ruled that Ryanair will no longer be able to refer to "Frankfurt-Hahn" in their advertisements as it is misleading given that HHN is over 120km from Frankfurt.. .. .This follows on from the older ruling to which Ryanair had objected.

Just came back from Frankfurt-Hahn on Ryanair out of Prestwick. The fare was £72 round trip. The closest I could get on Midland or BA to FFM from the northeast was nearly £400. Didn't mind the coach trip into FFM which cost £9. I gather Ryanair have had a 737 flying around with "Goodbye Lufthansa" on the side of the aircraft. The times they are a changing!. . . . [ 19 March 2002, 16:48: Message edited by: Nightflyer ]

and yet it is owned by Fraport who call it Frankfurt Hahn - see their web-site and it was designated a Frankfurt Airport by IATA partly on the behest of LH who wanted to develop a cargo hub. In this case it's not Ryanair who are renaming the airport, but it was done before they arrived.

Whilst technically Hahn may be designated as an airport for the Frankfurt area, it cannot be denied that Ryanair are misleading the public in suggesting they fly to Frankfurt when in any tangible sense they don't.

Actually, at the end of the day what most people are interested in is the overall cost and fair play to Ryanair I don't believe that their adverts are that misleading. I have flown numerous carriers over the past several months (most low-cost but some national carriers) and will pay the fare in accordance with what I want. My wife's family have a home in Italy and I frequently fly Ryanair to Ancona but have, on at least one occasion, taken Buzz to Milan because it was significantly cheaper on the day I wanted to travel and I was in no rush so was prepared to take the train onwards to my destination. On the other hand, last month I flew EZjet from Geneva to Luton return for a day trip and paid a huge amount in order to get a full day's skiing back on the slopes rather than wait for the next day and pay a fraction.. .. .Very often it's horses for courses and the low cost airlines provide what the punters want ie cheap fares that are worth it when compared with the inconvenience. In the recent past I have flown with Ryanair, Buzz, Eazyjet and Go and would recomend all of them. I have also flown BA, KLM and Alitalia and the bottom line with all the airlines is price and what I am getting from it.

Sounds like the problem is that Hahn is obviously a mobile airport -- over the past 24hrs I've seen it move from being 90km from FRA to 100km and now 120km...
