PIA Emergency Crews At Manchester For 2 Days
The past 2 times that PIA has landed at EGCC have both had fires on the aircraft. They say that it isn't linked with terrorism etc, and just the heat, but why haven't the other aircraft from such destinations been encountering the same situations? The fires started in the under-carriage on the 744's

During last week a PIA 777 had hot, smoking brakes over here too. No great drama though. OAT about +28C.
As to your last question...don't know. Too much grease maybe?
Every aviation incident does not involve terrorism or a threat, unlike the media would perhaps want you to believe.

Not sure what your on about..no 74M/743's were involved in the brake probs/fire, having said that PIA seem to be having quite a few tech problems with the 772's during MAN turnarounds, ever since they took deliveries a few months back, is this normal for this A/C type when its new??

Two Aircraft in Landing Fires Drama

Two aircraft have caught fire in as many days after landing at one of the UK’s busiest airports, police said today.
The undercarriage of a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight burst into flames after landing at Manchester Airport’s terminal two at 8.57am yesterday.
And the undercarriage of a second PIA flight caught fire at the same terminal at 11.13am today.
Firefighters based at the airport put the flames out as passengers were escorted away from the parked aircraft.
A Greater Manchester Police spokeswoman said: “There was a fire on the undercarriage of a plane yesterday morning, and another one this morning.
“Passengers were on the planes when the fires broke out but no one was injured.
“There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incidents.”
It is thought the fires were started by overheating around the undercarriages.

Apparently, same a/c, same brake, different days!
Can't blame PIA maint at MAN as the 777 is handled by Big Airways!
74M on Friday was no1 eng IFSD and ATB, compressor stall, HPC let go big style apparently!

The fire yesterday and the day before was on the same 772ER and the fires went out very quick it was the brakes that caught fire and last week it happend on the same aircraft as well but this one did not go out it was burning for at least 4 mins before the fire was put out by the fire service. Something tells me there is a big fault on this aircraft.
as for the 743 last friday it was 2 hours out when it had a fire in the number 1 engien it returned to manchester and went out 2 days later on 3 engiens to islamabad

2/ It did not have a fire, it had a surge.
3/ It returned to KHI via Istanbul.

An alternate grease, reccomended by Boeing which is applied by several airlines, including PIA has been causing problems. This grease requires an excess to be wiped off however PIA has now begun switching back to the previous grease to avoid such problems.

Surely you are not suggesting that the BA maintenance chaps were 'to blame' for these incidents are you?
Apparently, one aircraft has had 3 brake fires in a week all on different wheel positions and at least one other fire on another aircraft.
Either too much grease or the wrong spec is the likely culprit.
All the fires were on recently changed wheels!
I gather a BA engineer got his eyebrows burned in last weeks fire as it started as he was inspecting the brake to see where all the smoke was coming from.

No, certainly not blaming BA guys at all, however if it had the problem into MAN flew off to the US (where it more than likely happened again) and came back and the same thing happened, then something positive should of been done along the line somewhere!

Talking to my collegues at MAN, they recently had 6 wheel changes due 2 tyres burst on landing, funnily enough the same thing happened on the previous sector (into KHI) and all they did was change the wheels. Needless to say it left MAN with 2 brakes deactivated!!

These fires were NOT caused by excessive brake temperatures.
The wheel bearings were packed with too much (of the wrong type?) grease when fitted. All the fires occurred on brakes that had just had new wheels fitted to them. As far as I know all the a/c have now had the problem corrected at KHI.
