#31 An interesting video; fly around at 600ft AGL and 95 kts in a single-engined helicopter over built up area whilst waving one's arms around the cockpit and therefore nowhere near the collective, then climb to 1600ft and reduce speed to basic autorotation speed before entering the auto and ending with a power recovery at about 500ft over a wooded area.

We used to teach that autorotations were PFL's (practice engine failures) for the purpose of making a successful flare and landing hopefully on a suitable surface in an area clear of obstructions. I appreciate that engines are now a lot more reliable but I have the feeling that the outcome of an engine failure during that video could well have ended like the accident being discussed here.
