As much as I enjoy watching individual amuse themselves baiting others ENOUGH From when the moderator turned this thread back on at post 276 to now it's been a rehash of all the same BS from the first 275 posts.

Moderator PLEASE bury this thread in a spot that doesn't see the light of Day again.

Well, as the site owner you sure have the right to demand that.

Or you could just stop reading the thread if it upsets you so much

I think one of the problems in this thread is the vast differences between Mil vs Civil Flying in the UK, in terms of training and regulation.

If you are a pure Civ pilot, flying HEMS perhaps,

The 2 Pilot Minima are
500' cloudbase - VFR minima applicable to airspace,
499-400' cloudbase 1000m
399-300 : 3000m
(800m for short periods)
(No exemption from 500' separation from Persons,Property etc)

...Then to see helicopter such as the dauphin would seem a large excursion from what you are told to do. In fact, on reporting an event such as this one, could result in an investigation from the employer and CAA possibly resulting in suspension. (The flight recorder would have reported you anyway)

For a Military pilot, much lower minima and training for such applies, quite rightly so. Excursions from the minima are reported & investigation is classified as a 'non event' as in this case, apparently.

Quite a difference, depending on what sort of uniform you are wearing.

"it does exactly that on a regular basis"

tells me without a doubt that the weather is predictable...as predictable as its going to be ****ty, therefore these guys did not get "caught" in a sudden change of weather. They got caught pushing the limits.
whatever secret squirrel club stuff you have going on with them that cant be spoken about, otherwise kittens are killed, makes me laugh at the whole presumptuous story that these guys were suddenly caught off guard

Crab...What was plan `Z`...? IF WE RUN INTO THICK FOG/CLOUD AND LOSE SIGHT/CONTACT WITH THE GROUND `WADDDA WE GOING TO DO...?
I also think that crawling all the way up and then back down at lowspeed would have used as much fuel or more than if they`d gone IFR to Carlisle ...

342Driver...suggest you read the full AAIB report.....

Oh no, it's a fair cop Guv, you got me bang to rights - a ball rolled down the tube from the secret mystic foreteller of doom showing that the child in the car would grow up to be a very naughty boy. So a special mission was launched to catch him at an impressionable age in an outdoor location so that the helicopter could use it's special mind-altering ray gun to turn him into a good boy for the rest of his life. There weren't meant to be any witnesses so they tracked him and his dad for days until they were caught in fog in a remote part of the country - who knew they had a dashcam? So everyone has been 'disappeared' now and there is only this thread to tell the tale. Don't forget to wear your tinfoil hats to stop them reading your minds...........

Clearly they should have used the self-destruct function on the helicopter to eliminate everyone on the road and sacrifice themselves for the glory of Queen and country...

I’ve done both jobs. The rules and regulations are totally different. I’ve flown like this video on operations and I certainly wouldn’t have wanted that to be my first experience. You need to practice.
That said, on HEMS I have turned back with a 400’ cloudbase/20km visibility because it wasn’t legal. Lots of people claiming that this is dangerous. Well sorry, but training for war HAS to have a potential increase in risk.
Train hard: Fight Easy

You might not like it....... but tough

MG, I am bilingual....I speak English and American.

Apparantly much more fluent in my second language than someone else appears to be in his.

Thank you for the assist but it was not needed in this particular event.
