Check the fine print: when I needed to call on LoL insurance, AFAP refused to pay on a fine print clause, because I was getting Worker's Comp at the time. Convinced me to finally give up on them, after the airline dispute fiasco.

Ive got $100,000 LOL+$200,000 death cover form $1600 a year and to be quite honest i hope i never have to use it.
If you are younger its cheaper and more.

I've got death and a seperate disability cover with Royal Sun Alliance which I got through a broker here in Cairns.

But If I recall it was somewhat round about at getting it. I already had policies with R S A but they excluded the flying part.

First up I had to get off shore (through LLoyds I think) and after one or two years the broker was able to get R S A to drop the flying exclusion and the price remained the same.

So even if you initially have to pay more it won't necessarily stay that way. I can give you the brokers name if you want it, but he's a long way from your place.

He is a pilot as well and has a lot of clients through our local aero club and airport. so he has a good understanding of the situation.

Does anyone have any reccomendations for Loss of Licence or Trauma Insurance.
I know certain countries Pilot's Federation handle this.

Guys just trying to keep on the pace of the game.
As freelance I wondered what insurance schemes there are available that cover loss of licence or loss of medical.
I believe that BALPA do one but can you chaps shed light as to the best one to go for and what are the pit falls to look for when taking out a policy.

also is there an additional policy for offshore work or is it all covered under one hat.

Like wise is there discrimination for old injurys or is it that as you have a class 1 medical without restrictions on it you are classed as fit.

Any assistance and direction pointers would be extreamley appreciated.

As for loss of licence insurance (your current thread) I looked into it a while back. There were a few companies in the UK that would do it, and you were insured for so many times your yearly salary. So you might be insured for 3x your annual salary if you failed a medical, for example. I can't remember exactly who I rang, but try these:

Does the insurance normally pay out the same if you lose your JAR medical but continue to fly commercially on your FAA medical?

I guess Vonkluffen is talking about Loss of Licence insurance. This is a policy which pays a lump sum if you lose your license through any medical problem. There's also a temporary benefit, but it's the lump sum that most drivers are interested in. It's easy, and inexpensive, while you're young and gets progressively more difficult, and more expensive, as you get older. If you work for a major operator, there may be a group scheme in place. This will often include automatic renewal so you don't need to reapply every year. Safety in numbers! You should look for a specialist aviation insurance broker in your country, who should be able to give you information and get quotations. Alternatively, search through the web.
