I know it may sound goofy, but Lemon Pledge is as good as it gets for cleaning any thing plastic and will not harm.

For both my Gentex and moto shields, I use Plexus plastic polish with a small microfiber towel that I keep around just for that purpose (in other words, it's the one "rag" lying about that I won't use to wipe up coffee spills and such). When I don't have a can of Plexus available, Lemon Pledge works a treat as dillardrg says - with the added bonus of the scent masking the fact that my helmet liner likely needs a good wash.

Since aerosol cans have a distressing habit of inflating themselves in a somewhat dangerous fashion in heat, Pledge does make small self-sealing packets of wipes which are fantastic for keeping in a flight suit/helmet bag/moto tank bag.

Gallet Flight Helmets - Ordering Direct

Just wondering if anyone has any experience ordering a flight helmet directly from Gallet. In particular, I'm wondering about the comms packages available.

They offer what appears to be a "Civilian High Impedance Comms Pkg" (Part No. GA76131). Has anyone had any compatibility problems with helicopters in the civilian world with this configuration?

Also the comms packages offered by North American retailers (Merit, Aviation Survival etc.) come in at anywhere between $200-300 whereas Gallet are charging almost 500euro for theirs. Can anyone explain the difference in the cost?

Any other information on what to look for would be greatly appreciated.

Gomer Pylot 29th Jan 2010 16:19

Buying direct from a manufacturer is almost always more expensive than buying from a reseller. The manufacturer doesn't really want to deal with individuals, one item at a time, and they sell in bulk at a much reduced cost. The resellers accept a lower profit margin, thus a lower cost to the buyer. The manufacturer charges as much as the market will bear, and often more, not caring about making individual sales.

VIC Airwing helmets

Does anyone know if VICPOL Airwing, are now using Gallet helmets instead of the alpha's?
If so, why the change?

Squeaks 18th Apr 2010 12:24

I don't think they have changed: you may have noticed that AH are Gallet users, though, with HEMS 4 & 5.

Helmet and Laptop Bag

This is the only helmet bag I know of with a laptop compartment.

Laptop Backpack / Helmet Bag | Flying Circle Bags

I use one myself, and like it. However if you use an SPH5, it get a little cramped. I had a 3" "plug" sewn into mine, and now it works well.

Few questions here- what entails a ship powered ANR vs Battery powered on an Alpha Eagle? Do you need a seperate run off from the machine for the ship powered ANR?- This is intended for a Jet Ranger. How long do the batteries last for the ANR if it is battery powered? Thanks!

Hi,

You will need a plug and lead to go from the aircraft power to the ANR power supply.

You should be able to get a techo to make you up one that plugs into the aircraft mil spec 24 Volt 2 pin socket (that is usually installed on the Bells). Just remember to have a "break-away" connection (plug) near you helmet in case of emergencies.

Batteries; In a 412 my rechargable 9Volt battery lasts about 5 hours. I converted the battery box for the ANR kit to take 2 x 9 volt batteries in parallel. This will double you useable time. If using the rechargeable type 9V, get the "no memory" ones so you can flatten them completely and then recharge them again. This set up for me typically lasts about 2 years before replacing the batteries.

If you can get a 2nd battery box, do the same set up and you can swap boxes in flight when one goes flat.

It takes about 17 hours to recharge the batteries.

Once you have ANR it is very difficult to fly without it.

Have fun!

Cheers, 800

Helicopter Helmets

Hey everyone,

I know there have been a lot of posts about helmets but I am having difficulty deciding.
I have almost got my PPL and am then moving on to CPL, and I am looking for a helmet that is going to last me most if not all my career.
I have been looking at mostly the Alpha 200 and Alpha Eagle 900. I am having trouble choosing between these two helmets. Is there anyone that has used both of these helmets, or has used either of them that could share there opinion with me. Would be much appreciated.

Regards
Richard

Hi folks,

Does anyone here have any experience with the Oregon Areo Upgrades Soft Seal/Hush Kit for the MSA Gallet? Just wondering if it is effective and worth the purchase.

Thanks,

TiP

Yes Gallet are the most expensive air crew helmets in the world (this model is over $2,000!) but, in my view, undoubtedly the best in terms of noise protection, weight/comfort and audiotone.

Yep I agree, am happy with my Gallet but am wondering about the Hush Kit ear cups that Oregon Aero make.

I ordered mine with the hush-kit and zetaliner installed, so I canīt debate how big a difference there is from stock. But I can tell you that the helmet is a dream to wear with the hush-kit, and the passive noise reduction is amazing.
