I haven't worn any glasses under the helmet, but I would have thought with the gel earcups that would not be a problem. You can also buy little bridges/cushions for the glasses.
Sometimes the tint on the shaded visor is not enough when flying into sunshine. |
Gallet helmets
Boring I know, helmets the debates go on !, but can anyone out there help, got a Gallet LH250, MINUS ANY COMMS, been in touch with MSA-BRITAIN who directed me to MSA-EUROPE who in turn directed me back to MSA-BRITAIN who have now directed me to MSA-FRANCE who have yet to reply.....(turning blue now holding my breath !). Basically I just want to get a decent comms set up installed as per the Gallet style with an integrated mic, not a bolt on job. Anyone out there got any experience of dealing with MSA (as in a contact) or know where I can get it fitted or at least the parts to get them fitted. Incidentally, the helmet, totally impressed, I know it's all about preference, but out of the box, minimal messing, fits like a glove (not a boxing glove !).

Try here
http://www.earshotcommunications.co.uk/ We deal with them a lot and they are a reliable outfit |
steve999,
We bought our MSA Gallet helmets from Flyvelikehold AS in Norway who is the representative for Gallet in Scandinavia. The name of the guy who we where dealing with was Dag. They just build the headsets and the mics to the spex we wanted, a very profesional outfit. Might be worth trying them! |

helmets
Hi,
I am starting to fly some long line work, and I am wondering in any one could help me with a good helmet type. Helimar Keep the Rpm in the Green:ok: |
This subject has been beaten to death (no pun) in successive threads on this forum.
For a start, look at the last few pages of this thread: http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthr...flight+helmets If that's no good, familiarize yourself with the search tool and you will find two more threads (at least) that deal with flying helmets (which and how much, etc.). http://www.pprune.org/forums/search....archid=1863520 |
Helmets
I have used a Gentex for the last 20 years and wont change , but the choice is personal some people swear by the Alpha more money. Here is a good sight to look at flightsuitinc.com.
|
That'll be me then Ferrit, I wear an Alpha Eagle and absolutely love it:ok:
Helimar, like Ferrit says it's personal choice at the end of the day. Best thing to do is try some on and see what feels comfortable to you, after all if you don't like it you won't wear it! Hope this helps:cool: |
what helmet...
A few guys at our company just bought the Gallet LH250 and absolutely love it. It's the most expensive but for a reason... it's a good investment I think.
I also got the noise supression kit which makes even a Jet Ranger a quite aircraft ;-) PM me if you need details on what extras to order. Would also be great if you get a chance at your company to compare your coworkers helmets... Gentex, Alpha.... |
Feedback required on Gentex helmet models
I am about to purchase either a Gentex SPH-5 or a HGU-84 helmet with ANR for use in a civillian machine.
Anyone able to offer any feedback or recommendations for the performance of either of these helmets? I will mainly be using the helmet for utility work, including long lining....in a H500 mainly (love that high pitch squeal) and Astar. Any advice or feedback will be greatly appreciated. Safe flying! |
Have you tried searching for previous helmet threads?
There are lots of them. |
Hi Bravo73...thanks for that response.
I had a look earlier and could not really find what I was after. The SPH-5 with ANR sounds like a good helmet...I had one a couple years back without ANR and found it to be a good helmet overall. However, I was curious as to what the difference if between the SPH-5 and the HGU-84 aside from shape and cost. Thanks again. |
Look at the Gallet or the Alpha Eagle. Both seem to be popular. I have been flying a Gallet for a bunch of year and it was a great imporvement over the SPH5. Several friends have the Eagle and love it, comfy, quiet, light.

I'd second that about the Eagle... Very comfy(even in hot weather), quiet with and without ANR and very light too.:ok:
I can't offer any advice on Gentex as I haven't tried them. PR |
20 years with Gentex (10 with an SPH-4, 10 with an SPH-5) and now a few months with an Alpha Eagle....I FAR prefer the Alpha Eagle! Lighter, more comfortable, but probally not as durable..something to consider if you smack your head alot (which I did in my longline days).
|
Thanks for the info guys. I cant really justify the expense of the Alpha right now...especially when compared to the Gentex helmets (around $1400US with ANR). Also, I found the Gentex to be a little more robust for constant head knocks...a constant when long lining out of the 500.
|
Personally, I like the bill rather than the visor. Mine has Oregan Aero insides with Headsets, Inc ANR. I've been wearing it 10-12 hours a day for years. Every few years I send it in for new edge roll. Usually cost a little over $100.

i used to have an sph-4 which was a good solid helmet, no real complaints...they definitely have a good product. my new helmet is an Alpha 200 (i debated between this and the Eagle and decided on the 200) and i absolutely love it. its light, the visor mechanism is really quick to flip, i've worn it in +37 celsius so far and haven't found it unbearably hot. the one strange thing i've noticed about the alpha is that you REALLY have to work to get it on in sub-zero temperatures...the shell seems to shrink a full size. once you get your noggin in to warm it up its fine. i've used the oregon aero softseals and hushkits in both helmets and would definitely recommend them to anyone.
