A "feature" of the Notar is that when doing an EOL the coanda effect on the boom still works when you pull pitch at the bottom and they will turn left. As the RRPM decreases and the fan slows down it is nearly impossible to get it back straight unless you are aware of what will happen and lead with right pedal. If not you will touchdown with left yaw and if any forward speed they will probably tip over on their right side.

Operated and maintained one for a while and can't really remember anything that it did very well.
~. 83 built and ~ 40% are either W/O are defunct. Possibly the "Edsel" of the helicopter world?

Thanks RVDT, that helps explain why so many of them keep getting destroyed.

Don’t suppose this was one of our ‘influencers’ ?
If it was there would be some video and commentary on how to complete the exercise !

Once used to it and having to do a small run on the 520 was actually pretty easy to EOL , only flown a 600 for about 25 mins so cant comment

Yes, I agree, luckily no-one was hurt.
The question will be, why did the engine fail as they don't fail very often unless of course poor maintenance, fuel starvation or the such like for example.

Jeepys, MD600 took off from Newcastle, to Usk and then on way back to Shoreham. Thats a long way on a tank of fuel

Those Allison 250s have a habit of failing fairly often when there's no fuel in the combustion chamber.

Yes, that's a long way without re-fuelling.

314 nm

at 135 knots that will take 2.3 hours (in still air)

Wikipedia says range of MD600N is 357nm

357 minus 314 = 43nm. ie 18 mins endurance left

From flightradar it looks like it took off near Kelso at 10:40 and 'landed' at 14:00 near Patcham, with a couple of stops on route.

As one starts to run out of fuel you have to reduce speed considerably due to nose down atitude otherwise it runs out earlier than expected
