LAA and helicopters
Just been for a pint with my brother-in-law and he was showing me the list of light aircraft approved by the LAA. Not one helicopter????? We know around the world there are many proven light helicopters and I just wondered why the LAA don’t support the helicopter side of things. Microlights-yes, Gyrocopters-yes,Helicopters-no. Any comments would be most welcome. Thanks.

I think you will find the UK CAA won't let them get involved in heles. If you really wanted to, you can own/fly one of the versions of the Rotorway that are approved by the CAA. They don't have C of As, but operate under a CAA permit to fly, so you can build it yourself, if you really want to.

I had a look at the Rotorway and flew one and wasn’t too impressed. Some of the other models are much better and even the rotorway doesn’t come under the LAA. Just seems a great pity and nonsensical when they allow such a vast array of light planes and not one helicopter.
