Here is a blast from the past, Mil MI-8 LZ-CAX seen at Luqa 2000. It was engaged on round the island trips. Not sure if it did Malta - Gozo trips.

Hi DB, thoroughly enjoying your posts. I first went to Malta in 1954 as a Navy brat flying out in a Viking belonging to Hunting Clan, 8 hours + refuel at Nice and returning 2 years later in a Short Solent flying boat of Aquila Airlines, fantastic for a kid. Have now spent the last 7 years holidaying on Malta and Gozo and always attend the air show. I assume you're at the old Gozo heliport, are you open for visitors, my last stint with the RAF was on the 412 and it would be interesting to see your machine. Cheers
Bob

Will do, we're coming to Gozo just before the Air Show and renting a farmhouse for two weeks so see you then.

DB one question & hope you don't mind
You are now under 9H register...
How about AOC?
Asking on purpose my last info from local CAA approx 2 years ago,
was no active helicopter AOC. And they told us that can be difficult to obtain one,
because of limited administrative work force

Oldsarbouy look forward to meeting up with you.
9A plus yes the B412 are on the Maltese Register and we are the first Helicopter AOC holder issued in Malta. TM-CAD were very helpful and suppotative through the process but no real problems.

Great, thank you...
Guess my friend F. was involved in paperwork, he mentioned B412 while ago

Great photos DB, brought back many memories.

I was in Malta from 1972 -1974 with 41 Commando Group, Royal Marines. We were based in St George's Barracks with our Sioux AH Mk 1's and spent many a happy hour either training or taking people on the Cook's tour around the islands.

BTW, The diving is - or rather, should I say, was, excellent on Gozo. Xlendi was particularly good with the remnants of the Roman fleet and the whole amphora sitting in the sand. Every time we returned to harbour, a local Policeman would inspect our boat to make sure we hadn't lifted any artefacts.

Is the Spitfire still in the small bay on the north side of Gozo? Only in about 30ft, or should I say 10 metres. The Roman stuff was at about 35 metres, if my memory serves me well.
