MD6XX? Sighting of MD600 with four blade T/R
Sighting of MD600 with four blade tail rotor (photo courtesy of Heliweb sources ) at MDH Falcon Field which has led speculation this could be the envisaged MD6XX

Well about time they put a tail rotor on a 600. Hopefully have hydraulics as well. If it flies like a 500 and hopefully about 300 lbs lighter without all the Notar rubbish on it they might actually have a half descent machine !

Be very hard pushed losing 300lbs converting NOTAR to tail rotor....adding hydraulics will add weight...the 600 is not an issue without hydraulics
well an average E model is 1690 lbs a 520 is around 2000 lbs. Agree about the weight of hydraulics, but if you are a 500 pilot fine for no hydraulics but for it to be a success it would need them
Going on the description from last year, it does look like the promised MD6XX. It also looks like that might be a mock-up. Boeing had a mock-up of their AH-6S Phoenix constructed in the mid-2000's for the ARH competition. The fuselage section in the photo might be the original mock-up while the tailboom and tail are presumably new. The shape of the tailboom is quite interesting and looks quite different from the standard 500-shape tailboom. It appears to be quite thicker and the end plates on the T-Tail are bigger too. Would the thicker tailboom allow the possible adoption of a tailboom strake? It will be interesting to see if this turns up at HAI.

Is this an official admission that NOTAR doesn't work?
And I thought noise reduction compared to TR-equipped choppers was a major advantage of the NOTAR...
Rather than featuring the company’s famous NOTAR anti-torque technology, the MD 6XX has a more traditional four-bladed tail rotor and an extended composite tail boom, which MD claimed will deliver 40 percent more anti-torque power.
The use of the tail rotor is also said to provide a reduced noise signature.
Well I have seen the future and heard from Her Ladyship Lynn Tilton as her minions looked on adoringly but in all too apparent fear of upsetting her.....
So I have checked over my shoulder and it looks clear ... she aint watching.....
What we have been presented is another case of the Emperors New Clothes. The original MD600 was a rework of a Vietnam War design from the 1960s, a 3 +2 warhorse that worked well and still does - if you can get spares.
So the new design does away with the NOTAR and reverts to 'normal' but it makes no attempt to employ any of the knowledge of the last 30 years. Love it or hate it MDs NOTAR is about technology being used for directional control but all of that has been ignored. I know for a fact that BLR were sniffing around the MD booth looking to see if there was anything that might be a breach of an STC. There was nothing, not a strake and not an attempt to create some Coanda effect by sculpting the boom. This was a 500 tail [literally] screwed on the back of an old unloved and narrow 600 pod.
What a waste of an opportunity.
Still apparently there are plans to add 'automatically opening' electric side doors that were developed by a Tilton car factory. Seemed like a great idea.... on a car.

Always the cynic.
Been lonely in Dallas without a fellow cynic......
Yes there are some words waiting in the wings on the Bell MAPL... sorry ... the super new thing....

Been looking around at info on this newest airframe...does anyone know what engine MD has in mind? One of the Rolls-Royce M250 engines or a Honeywell HTS900 engine? Any thoughts?

It will have the M250-C47E3 apparently. Not sure if this engine has been fitted to any other machines or if it has even been flight-tested yet.

The M250-C47E was talked about at HAI Heli Expo back in 2013.
Destined for the MD540 - i.e. 6 bladed 530.
I first saw what became the 540 back in 1997.
It was in the "skunk works" hangar which we were not supposed to see.
They must have been flying the 600N rotor as a test vehicle maybe?
Having flown a 600 a fair bit I don't think it will be all that it is cracked up to be.
Starting with the same basic blade and just adding more is not so efficient or optimised.
Lipstick on a pig.
