Job Losses in Aberdeen
As many as 15 pilot jobs are at risk at Bristow Helicopters in Aberdeen, with CHC Helicopter also looking at making cuts.
Bristow said it was proposing 15 redundancies, due to the "challenges the oil and gas industry is experiencing".
The British Airline Pilots' Association said it had begun "urgent negotiations" with the company.
CHC is also currently consulting on possible job losses.
Balpa national officer Mick Brade said of the Bristow news: "We have already had an initial meeting with the company and our urgent talks are ongoing."
Bristow said in a statement: "As a result of the challenges the oil and gas industry is experiencing, the company has announced proposals involving 15 redundancies within our pilot group at Aberdeen.
"We are consulting with our trade unions and employees over these proposals and will do everything we can to support our employees through this difficult process.
"Our focus remains on providing a safe and efficient service throughout the North Sea."
'Difficult decisions'
A CHC spokeswoman said: "We are currently focussed on conducting a thorough and fair consultation, working with employees and unions, and supporting those who are affected.
"The offshore industry continues to face challenging conditions and we, like many other businesses, are having to respond to the current environment.
"Difficult decisions must be made but our customers can be assured that safety remains our top priority."

A 5% cut when you're on £50,000-£120,000 a year is hardly a great hardship to save your job.
I know of at least one pilot who took the option of going half-time last year at Bristow, thinking it would give him some sort of protection, who then got made redundant later in the year.
We accepted a pay freeze and other loss of benefits last year and as soon as the result was know they sacked 120.... the directors still had bonuses https://biz.yahoo.com/e/160609/brs8-k.html
The 15 are all 225 and at the moment surplus..... wined your neck in...
these redundancies would have happened any way... its the american way....

Be under no illusion, if the Bristow guys took that 5% cut in salary and all the associated cut in T&C there would still be 15 redundancies! Much like what happened to their engineers when they were re balloted after a no vote and told "if you vote no again there will have to be redundancies". The guys voted yes to the cuts and still got smashed.

I hate to inject a note of realism here but....
Our staff have just taken a 25% pay cut. Most of the contract staff have had rate cuts of up to 40% (in three rounds). In short 5% is not even a token gesture, it is irrelevant. We are an oil service company and most of our competitors are in the same position - or out of business. Given the large over capacity in the helicopter business (remember no 225s and yet no real problems in crew changes?) things are not going to get better quickly. 15? Hope that this is the end and not the start.

Now that EASA Licenses will mean naught in the UK....and only those White Cardboard Binder Types will be of any use....assuming Foreigners can obtain Work Permits....how is that going not affect the Job Market?
Whilst Uk as a whole voted to leave the EU, Scotland voted to stay.
Will they stay part of Britain or devolve and remain part of the EU?
Which is the better for offshore business?

All fair points - apart from there being no effect from the 225. The S-92 guys are picking up the slack but burning through hours like Billy-O.... there will be an effect at some point.
5% cut at Bristows will sting.
Does that include SAR? Given the director UKSAR is understood to be staring at a 2.2m USD bonus for delivery, where's that 189...?
