JAR/EASA IR training
I'm looking for a helicopter school in the UK or Europe that provides good IR training. Does anyone have any advice?
I've got a quote from Bristow but the earliest start date is the middle of May, they are fully booked until then.
Also, what I'm thinking is; where are all these new IR pilots going to go????? All to the north sea??? Is the north sea market looking for some many pilots?

Try motorflug or Lifeflight.
Both in Germany.
First one using the simulator in Stockholm/Arlanda, Second one using a sim in Bonn / 50 m from their office.
Might be able to help you on both (as i need some more FI hours for this year, as my extension is coming up...)...

Lots of these students will be ex-Mil. But, yep, lots of these pilots will end up on the North Sea.

Just be careful Bristow have a 500 hours Twin or gone through the Bristow Academy policy for starters, so if you don't meet these criteria Bristow won't hire you. I beliveve CHC and Bond have a different view.
CHC and Bond have customers who are not OGP compliant.

Depends if you see a need/want to spend the extra on a MEIR too, as opposed to a SEIR, when if going to the NS you'll unlikely use that 355 rating. Whilst increasing your chances in direct comparison an IR is an IR and the conversion from SE to ME is not too onerous once you have the type rating (3hrs sim, 2hrs aircraft, proficiency check with any IR(E)). Not all employers require the ME and it could save you Ł12-15k.
You could for example consider the SE IR with BAC in Denmark, on the 206L for approximately Ł27k, and in recent years CHC have hired a number of pilots with this IR from this provider.
Whilst Bristow would love all to 'require' this because it's great for their publicity/academy, I think most realise that it's a little OTT for the OGP guidelines to imply that someone with 180 hours & CPL from the Academy is THAT much better (if at all) than someone who trained with another reputable organisation with 1000+ hrs onshore single time, or even 250hours twin. Thankfully not all offshore clients require it, so they don't YET have a monopoly on all training for those wanting to make it to the NS.

i would personally recommend Bond at EGBJ they are busy but they are very good, IIRC their pass rate for full courses is 100%
i have no connection with them other than being a satisfied customer.
speak to Ellie and she will advise you of their waiting time for a course.

I did my course at Bond too. Very happy with their setup and instructors and can definitely recommend them.
I don't know if the fact they offer the IR on a Multi Engine in stead of a single is a benefit?

EASA SE IR(H) @ nortavia Spain?
Hi all!
Just wondering if anyone has experience, opinions, info& pros n cons on this flight school in Spain :
They offer EASA SE IR H in the R44.

Would a SE IR “cut it”for north sea employment at present? I have heard guys have gotten hired withEASA SE IR, As type rating was combined with ME IR add on when under employmentcontract. Thanks in advance. Keep ‘er lit!!!!!!

Nortavia is in Portugal (Oporto) not in Spain. In Portugal you can do IR in SE until april.
You have: Nortavia and Helibravo with R44 and American Flyers with a Hughes 300 I think, I am not sure about American flyers. Since april 2013 they have to do the IR in ME.
In Spain you have to do your IR course in ME.

ME IR(H) Type related or not ?
Can someone explain me this, yes or no (according to the new EASA_PART_FCL) ?

You have to be rated on, or have completed approved training on, the type on which you which you validate your ME IR. The IR itself is not type specific, but is of little use without a type rating. If you choose to do the IR without the type rating, you will have one year only to attach it to something.
Subsequent types require 2 hours of IR training plus PC to revalidate the IR.
