ASS????

Hi gents,

Referring to the EASA CPL/ATPL/IR (H) Learning Objectives:

Explain the basic components of a trim system in particular:
- force trim switch
- force gradient
- parallel trim actuator
- cyclic 4-way trim switch
- interaction of trim system with a SAS/SCAS/ASS stability system
- trim motor indicators

What is an 'ASS' stability system and what is its difference to 'SAS'?

We cannot find it anywhere!

Any ideas, guys?

It's an absolute stab in the dark, but I'm going to lock in Augmented Stability System.

An acronym for 'Seat of the Pants'?

Maybe a failure of ASS refers to a numb bum.

This from one of my very experienced Pilots.

As far as I am awarefrom different types of helicopters I've interacted with, the principlefunctioning of the systems SAS/SCAS/ASS (stability augmentationsystem/stability control augmentation system/augmented stability system) is allthe same. There may be a few very minor differences hence the difference intheir naming but this also primarily comes from the fact that they are producedby different manufacturers. End result as far as the interaction of the trimsystem with these stability systems is all the same and for the purposes of theEASA question, the proper explanation would cover all three varients.

The only advice I would suggest here-abouts is that I'd be careful being too glib about the acromyn "SAS"
