Croatian rescue: Bell 212

UK Telegraph online

A Croatian man has been dramatically rescued from his sinking boat seconds before it disappeared into a flooded river.

Ivan Plevnik, 56, was airlifted to safety after his vessel became stuck in the Sava River in Zagreb.

Firefighters attempted to save Mr Plevnik for several hours, but could not reach the boat due to strong currents and a rescue helicopter was called in.

Mr Plevnik was at first reluctant to leave his boat, but when the water began to overwhelm the vessel, the rescuer grabbed the sailor and hoisted him into the air just as the boat sank.

Had the rescue taken place any later, both men would have both been pulled underwater, also putting the helicopter in danger.
Anyone else think that the sailor wandering back into his boat almost deserved not to be rescued? The crewman just managed to get him out: well done that man

Excellent job by the crew. Itīs tough to do this longline over fast moving currents.

Lucky they had a rock steady platform like the 212 is. I will always miss flying 212īs

Old "sailor" now accusing police for sinking his vessel
He was so smart to moor vessel against main river stream in opposite direction (Bow / Stern)

Excellent job for crew and old "mike"

Real nice piece of flying by the 212 pilot. I think we need more Croatian pilots flying here in the Canadian bush. Dope-on-a-rope attached to the belly hook with a (?)70' longline, working with hand signals, did an amazing job too. I kept expecting the line to snag on the boat and cause catastrophe to everyone. They cut it pretty close.

Didn't look close at the helicopter attachment, but it seemed to go through the hook into the cabin. Couldn't tell if there was a crewman in the back directing the pilot of if he was the one sitting in the left side with the door open.

Should we pass a hat and buy them a hoist?

Thanks malabo, but passing the hat around won't be necessary
The Hoist was recently damaged, but should be back online soon
