Croatian rescue: Bell 212

UK Telegraph online

A Croatian man has been dramatically rescued from his sinking boat seconds before it disappeared into a flooded river.

Ivan Plevnik, 56, was airlifted to safety after his vessel became stuck in the Sava River in Zagreb.

Firefighters attempted to save Mr Plevnik for several hours, but could not reach the boat due to strong currents and a rescue helicopter was called in.

Mr Plevnik was at first reluctant to leave his boat, but when the water began to overwhelm the vessel, the rescuer grabbed the sailor and hoisted him into the air just as the boat sank.

Had the rescue taken place any later, both men would have both been pulled underwater, also putting the helicopter in danger.
Anyone else think that the sailor wandering back into his boat almost deserved not to be rescued? The crewman just managed to get him out: well done that man
