Have any of you ever heard the expressions "Poking a little fun at......" or "Having a little dig at......" ?
I've done more maintenance test flying in my career than you've had hot breakfasts. (Now let's see what "hornets' nest" that comment stirs up.)

Vladimir Putin and David Cameron hold "high-level" talks in Russian Presidential helicopter
RasPutin dismounts the Russian Presidential helicopter
The pair flew over the Black Sea resort of Sochi, where Russia will host the 2014 Winter Olympics, for talks which focused on the crisis in Syria and tackling terrorism.
The PM said relations between the UK and Russia had improved since 2006 when Russian dissident Alexander Litvinenko died after drinking poisoned tea in London.
Cabin Attendant: "Mr Prime Minister, would you care for some coffee .. or something stronger perhaps?" RasPutin: Why are you showing this "British" so much courtesy?
"Over there is where I am building a new house. It has 155 bedrooms"
RasPutin: "You don't believe me do you? But you will read about it in one of your esteemed British publications, perhaps the Daily Mirror." Cameron: "I never wanted a house with 155 rooms anyway. To be honest I'm not even sure if I really wanted to enter politics?"
Presidential Aide: "What the President says is true. The builders began nearly a month ago. Its an amazing project. Maybe next time you visit the President will invite you!"

Well said Tailspin.
There is a misconception among people who have never had anything to do with Russian helicopters that they are flying death traps. They are not.
If they are properly maintained and properly flown they are as safe as any western helicopter.
Here in Africa they are all over the place but they do plow into the ground quite a bit - but that's because they are not being operated as they should.

Russian Helicopters has announced a $380 million contract with the Russian Defence Ministry for the supply of 40 Mil-8 helicopters.
The contract was signed by Deputy Defense Minister Yury Borisov and Russian Helicopters CEO Dmitry Petrov. Helicopter deliveries are to begin next year, Petrov said.
The Mi-8 AMTSh is a combat transport version of the Mi-17 helicopter, with more powerful turboshafts and portside tail rotor. Its weapon systems include Igla-V AAM or Shturm-V ASM missiles, B8V20 rocket pods and a GSh-23 gun.

On June 28, 2013, a UTair Aviation Eurocopter BO 105 helicopter joined the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute expedition organized by State Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute.
The UTair helicopter is outfitted with special equipment for conducting operations in the polar conditions and departed to participate in the project from the deck of the diesel-electric icebreaker Capitan Dranizyn. The UTair crew has as its objectives visual ice reconnaissance, surveillance flights for research and facing practical challenges of flight operations including take-off and landing on a moving ship. The highly experienced crew is specially trained in high latitude operations and deck flying.
Previously, in July 2011, a UTair BO 105 helicopter took part in escorting the icebreaker Capitan Dranizyn on its way to the Franz Josef Land archipelago the nearest landmass to the North Pole in the Eastern hemisphere.

Russia's UTair to Separate Fixed and Rotary-Wing Divisions
09 October 2013 | Issue 5231
The Moscow Times
As international banks conclude that UTair is massively undervalued, Russia's fourth largest aviation group plans to divide its helicopter and airplane operations into two separate companies, the group's CEO, Andrei Martirosov, announced Wednesday.
The division, set for completion by 2016, will allow the company to attract separate investors for the two branches of its operations, chief financial officer Igor Petrov said at the same event, Prime reported.
UTair's Nefteyugansk United Airline Transportation Company has already been renamed UTair Helicopter Services, while a passenger airline will soon be established, Martirosov said, speaking at a ceremony in Seattle.

Mi-8 crashes with no injury to passengers
Russian Ministry of Civil Defence
An Mi-8 helicopter belonging to Russian helicopter operator Eltsovka Helicopter Airline crashed yesterday (5th December) in the Tomsk Oblast region of Russia near Kargasok in the West Siberian Plain.
A total of 18 persons were aboard (15 passengers and 3 crew) all of whom escaped injury.
The helicopter is believed to have departed Karagsok on a commercial flight when it encountered a problem resulting in a forced landing. A second helicopter came to recover the passengers and took them to their originally intended destination.

Good afty Savoia
Does the Mi8, similar to the one shown that came down, have 4 engines, for it looks like 4 blanked off air intakes are on the top part of that injured Mi8
