Brands Hatch.

Morning Folks,

My brother starts his bike racing again next early next month, and the first venue will be Brands, into which I should like to fly (probably in a .

Has anybody any experience of flying in there before now? Any useful names / contact numbers for getting permissions? Do you normally need a rule 5 exemption?

Any info is, as always, much appreciated.

You may all, also get bored of me by the end of the season as there may be more of these messages with <insert name of track> as the subject - but at least I won't have to ask the year after!

Thanks in advance chaps & chapesses.

Craig.

The form for permission to break rule 5 is http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/33/CA1757B~SRG1304.pdf

The AIC which explains how to operate near assemblies of people is on the AIS site but I've just been called into work so I'll find it for you later.

Well, Jonathon Palmer is always in and out of there in his AS355 - and Bedford Autodrome - circuits which he part owns.

He plonks G-JPAL next to the Motor Sport Vision building, at the end of Clark Curve - on a prepared surface. (Top right in the pic below)

I have also seen the Aston A109 on a helipad in the 3 o'clock position in this pic

More info here:

One on the ground at Brnads Hatch:

(EDITED TO APOLOGISE FOR INCLUDING THE ORGINAL PIC - SORRY)

I've been dealing with a guy called Mark Speed at Motorsport vision for the A1GP. He deals with the hospitality for Brands. email [email protected] He should be able to help.

Also, a couple of years back London Helicopters 01737 823 377 operated a landing site in the field east of the motorway. Maybe worth giving them a call.

Talk to the circuit direct. They sometimes make special arrangements. When the WSB come in, they arrange for someone to roganise a fully manned helpiad with all the trimings. In that past, this has been over the other side of the main road.

I have not been for amny years, but the "normal" site used to be in the "back garden" of what looked like a bungalow. It was a short walk from the circuit itself.

As I say, talk to the circuit. They were very helicopter minded.

I can't find the AIC but the guidance on operating near organised assemblies on the CAA site is here.

You will not be able to land where JP parks his but you can see the windsock and landing area quite clearly at Brands to the west of the circuit, they charge £50 which I think is a bit OTT.

Rotorvation are about a mile away, perhaps less, I have often walked it or somtimes you can arrange with Richard the owner for a lift to the circuit, call him first http://www.rotorvation.co.uk/

That is Rotorvation's site that 007 refers to above.

Sorry DB but it's not. The Bungalow 007 refers too is on Brands Hatch just south of what was the runway for Brands. Rotorvation is further north and a private helipad, nothing to do with BH.

There are 4 sites at Brands used by Helicopters:

2 in the NE of the site, by the bungalow, at 51-21 -51.43N, 0-15-34.32E and 51-21-45.54N, 0-15-34.11E

The post JP uses and the Medevac at 51-21-26.62N, 0-15-55.25

Finally the Heliport used for larger events at 51-21-56.01, 0-15-55.25E and has a 06/24 aligned runway. This is usually managed by Gaeko whose details are in the BHAB handbook.

Hope this helps

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&tab=wl

Google maps shows clearly the landing site and H at Rotorvation and surrounding area including a heli on the ground at one of the actual circuit sites.

Craig,

I you need any assistance call Gae Pellet (Geko Air Services) she used to run the temporary licensed site for WSB meetings. Her number is 01293 772033.

Thank you all so much for the information! Been away for the weekend, and just starting to read it all and take it in.

SSS: See you there, if I make it down - if not will I see you at other meetings this year?

Brands Hatch

Hi All,

Anyone with any advice :

I have just been asked if I could take a helicopter into Brands Hatch for the A1GP at the weekend (not asked as in "Would I ?" , but "could I if I wanted ?").

Now while I am NOT going to (newly minted PPL with <100hrs) - I just wondered what would be the process.

Is it like Silverstone where you need to attend a brief first, do you just call ahead and ask them / book in etc ??

Just wondered what the format was.

Many thanks for any consutructive comments.

The A1 GP meetings are not anything like Silverstone GP events.

You need to contact MotorSport Vision (or which ever company is Brands at the moment) and deal directly with them.

I get stuck try contacting Gae Pellet at Geko Air Services she should be able to direct you to the correct person.

JP has the pleasure of parking directly inside the circuit by his bowser, for the big events they usually set up a helipad between the paddock entrance and the M20.

give motorsport vision a phone call and see who they have organising the heliport for the A1.

if they are not using the facility then there is a helipad/training company down the road from brands, although i cannot remember who they are. but i am sure they would allow parking and arrange a lift to the gate for a fee.
