R44 crashes into a fuel tanker

You wouldnt believe it, no explosion and the three onboard suffered non life threatening injuries.

The accident is believed to have happend at 13.00 LMT by Rudskogen i Østfold. Three taken to hospital, one by airambulance. A 42 year old man is believed to have extensive head injuries, but is in a stable condition.

The helicopter was operating in the area and landed on the tanker in a building site!!

So you mean all the films where anything crashes even slightly at 5 mph into a tanker and you get a mini hiroshima are fiction ?

Sometimes it's better to land a bit further away from the fuel.

Looks like it's usually pretty windy around those parts, judging by the trees...

Eyewitnesses reports that the R44 was orbiting the site, then suddenly startet to spin around the rotors axis. (According to NRK TV-news today)

Tail rotor failure anyone?

Another report from this accident:

http://www.aftenposten.no/english/lo...cle2072751.ece

It seems, they didnt want to land near that truck, they were obviously on a photomission overhead this construction site.

Great advert for the pro-helmet lobby me thinks...

Something tells me this pilot won't be doing this type of parking again!

Quite amazing with all that spare open space around him, he had to pick the fuel tanker to park on.

Lone fire extinguisher.."At least a suitably sized fire extinguisher is in the foreground to deal with the scene behind..."

glasses

I think you have stumbled on the cause of the accident.. Maybe he's found the same pair of glasses that the pilot was looking for.
