Silverstone 2007 Photos...

Pilots/Operators,

This past weekend I took over 6000 (no kidding) photos at the heliport during the Grand Prix. Some of you may have seen me on the approach end of the FATO on Sunday morning and around gate 8/9 in the afternoon. I was the only guy with a 400mm telezoom not pointing it at one of the F1 cars. I wasn't shooting for hire, just for fun.

In any case, I got shots of the great majority of aircraft that came in and out on Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday. I probably have at least one or two print-worthy photos of almost every aircraft.

If any of you guys are interested, just shoot me a PM with the reg you were in and I'll email you any "keepers" I may have.

I always enjoy decent shots taken of me in my own helo and just thought I'd extend the favor.

BTW - I also have about 1500 shots from Ascot (Thursday) this year if anyone is interested.

Welcome to Rotorheads, AFCSoff.

6000? Blimey. You must've been going non stop.

Are you willing to host them online somewhere?

If so, how about posting your favourites in this thread? Pur-leeze.

Yeah..."non-stop" is about right. The only guys who were around longer than I was were those poor dudes that had to fly the pleasure laps around the circuit.

I'm afraid I don't have the bandwidth to post all of them online at this point - even just batch resizing all of the images into a manageable format for the web would take several days. Right now I'm still in the middle of organizing all of the shots into separate folders by registration - no small task in its own.

Not all of them came out, and there's a bit of sensor dust due to the slow shutter speed I was shooting at - but there's a bunch that are still pretty good. I'll at least post some of my faves by tomorrow night latest.

Wonderful.

You probably already know more about this than most of us but places like Photobucket can be a good place to stash images (for free).

Well, I know who to approach for a calendar photo

Does FOX have an aft cg, or is it just the photo angle?

Fox aft Cof G

No, his C of G is well within limits, he's just using the "Silverstone anchor" a mod incorporated to most Helicopters there who have come to a stop amongst all of that downwash, probably downwind, all while trying to keep pax from exiting early in excitement!

Excellent, not sure about those silver stripes but I do like the 500E- the best looking variant IMHO.

Thanks

More shots...

Wow...

First of all, the response to this thread has been awesome. I really didn't think that there would be that much interest in these. I guess I should have been heading down to the race in person the last couple of years instead of watching it on Sky.

I finally got all of the shots organized this morning, and if you've PM'd me and haven't received a reply yet, I should get to you shortly. If anyone has any special requests of aircraft they'd like to see posted for all to enjoy (rather than just PM'd or emailed to them directly), just post it in a reply to the thread and I'll upload whatever I may have of that aircraft.

Here's some more shots chosen randomly...

I think your shots are fantastic.

Very well done.

you have captured some very good motion shots from great POV.

Still, having a 400mm lens will definatly help you do that LOL.

Great work

HELOfan - Thanks for the kind words...

Good copy on the 400mm...What also helps is that since I shoot digital without a full-frame sensor I get a crop factor equivalent to 600mm. Using a VR lens makes a ton of difference as well.

Great for getting shots like these...

Excellent shots, AFCSoff. Thanks for sharing them with us.

With that sort of detail of some of the pilots' faces, now we can see the b*ggers who cut us up...

(Fingers crossed that my ugly mug doesn't show up. I'll probably be burnt at the stake if it does...)
