CHC Dauphin Interior
Hello all,
I was hoping I could ask for some help by the many pilots that roam this forum.
My 4 year old son has been smitten by helicopters ever since he was old enough to see the CHC Dauphins that fly over our house every day on route between the Irish Sea Rigs and Blackpool Airport.
At an airshow stall last year, he spotted a model of the Dauphin and it seemed fitting to purchase this with a view to painting it in the CHC livery so that he could have his very own rigs helicopter.
Trying to make the model as authentic as possible, I have researched the web for interior photos of a CHC Dauphin but have had little luck with the detail I am trying to make. Photos generally do not show the likes of the rear cabin bulkhead, floor pan, pedals, etc, or if they do, they are not of the CHC Dauphin.
Although Blackpool Airport’s CHC office were very helpful in describing the colours (even saying if one was on the helipad I could have had a look (I’m not cheeky enough to go back and ask when one is available at fear of being labelled a spotter)), description’s cannot substitute pictures.
The tragic events of G-BLUN at the start of this year had an impact on my son (even at this tender age) and he asked to take some flowers to the place on the fence next to where we would watch G-BLUN and her sister ships fly from and to every weekend. He has since asked for this model to have G-BLUN’s markings.
I would be very grateful if anyone could help me if they already have or could get hold of detailed photos of the CHC Dauphin interior to help us on with our project. I'm especially interested in such photos as where the bulkhead meets the floor pan, centre instrumentation console, main instrumentation console meeting the floor pan etc
Kind regards
JimB

Hi Jim,
I just tried a search on airliners.net, which returned quite a lot of results for G-BLUN.
I think you can also contact the photographers via that site. It's fairly possible some of the photographers who took ground shots also have some of the interior available..
I hope that helps. Good luck

Hi MB
Thanks for your reply.
I've extensively searched airliner.net and a couple of other aircraft photography sites. I've considered contacting the photographers but due usually to the high security with CHC, casual photograhers cannot get that close to the machines.
I have also emailed an employee that I know works around the airport on aircraft but he didnt have the decency to reply even to say he was unable to help.
I was hoping I may be lucky and come across a CHC pilot in that may be able to help. If not I will continue with your recommendation.
Many thanks
JimB

Go back to CHC at Blackpool and have a word with the Basemanager I am sure he will assist you after all he himself is an avid aeroplane spotter. You should be able to see the aircraft on the pad between 1600hrs and 1800hrs.
They are a very friendly bunch and will assist you a I am sure just don't try it on Tuesdays and Wednesdays those are extremely busy days for them.

JimB,
Please take care of that little boy, he is special!
I was a 7 year-old, gripping the fence at Sikorsky's Bridgeport plant watching the H-34's hover when my parents found me (having wandered away from them at the public beach only 200 yards away!) The love of aviation never ends....

Many Thanks
Apologies for not getting back to you all sooner.
May I say thank you to you all for your time responding to my request. I will respond to PM's separately.
I have more leads now than I know what to do with and worry that most of CHC is now busy trying to help. This ultimately mean more photos than I can shake the cyclic/collective at.
Brilliant Stuff:
Thanks again for the name. I have had another similar lead and will try to coordinate the 2 to save any confusion.
Jase:
Apologies mate, I didn’t think to ask you. Catch you soon for a hop and a chat.
Nick:
I feel humbled to have a guru such as yourself reply (been reading rotorhead forum for a while debating whether to post therefore have had the pleasure of reading your more technical posts on a number of occasions). Absolutely right about my son. Just hoping I can guide him well through the perilous world we live in today. By the way, in January he asked me to by him a rope. I asked him what for........his reply was that he could tie it round G-BLUN and pull it back from the sea with its pilots and passengers.
Vickers:
Thanks but it’s the Dauphin pics I need.
Langball:
I would appreciate whatever you can get for me in case my other leads drop through.
JagRigger:
Will PM you if all else fails
Thanks again.
Regards
JimB

Hi,
I see that UKV145 knows the Technical Director for CHC. Who would that be then ?? They haven't had a Technical Director since they formed CHC Europe back in 2004.

Hey - those were pretty clear. Better than the efforts I got on BLUM Monday............
Don't forget if modelling there are a few modifications:
No U/C doors ( rear fairings though)
'pod' under rear of fuselage
bulged rear passanger doors
various other bumps and bulges ( intakes, etc )
Currently trying to do one in 1/72 - good luck with yours.

Langball:
Many thanks for your clear pictures.
Greatly appreciate your help. Hope it wasn't too much trouble.
JagRigger:
The 1:48 scale Dauphin comes complete with the pod under the fuselage and the lumps and bumps. I find the detail is never enough on 1:72 scale.
No bulged rear passenger doors and no intake covers though. The rest is very authentic especially if I can get the CHC colours spot on.

Simply to put the thread back at the top again, I was similiar in constantly running outside to watch the army choppers fly over my parents house.
Its a shame how we (make that I really) forget what sparked it all off....
Lovely thread, and I'm pleased your getting the results you need.

I chuckle to myself when I read your post.
My son's passion seems to have engulfed the family. As we live very near the beach, the obvious flight path is very nearly over our house. Every time one of the family hears an aircraft we run out the back come rain or shine just to get a glimpse.
The great thing about the Dauphin is that you can hear her coming along time before she appears hence this aircraft being favourite to my son.
