Andy, please rearrange the following words to construct a well-known sentence:-
Skating are thin on ice you
Capital "I" for I please, but I can recognise that as a typo as I can for most of the other so-called spelling mistakes - cut the guy some slack. If you really want to read some appalling English, pop over to Professional Training; you'll have a field day there!
Impress, it should be "who will hit whom first".

Whirls, diagnosed with dyslexia at the age of 8 and have never looked back since. Thank good for spell checker but where the fwck is the grammar checker on this poxy bill gates machine ?

There is one in MS Word; it underlines stuff in green but it's not very good. It doesn't understand that "none" is singular and it won't pick you up for putting prepositions at the end of sentences!!

The problem as I see it, is a lackadaisical approach to writing, regardless or not you went through that poor period of NSW education. Take for example:
The reason you would use a reference like an English dictionary or a "T"hesaurus is because you need to check or double check a word when you are applying yourself to writing something more esoteric than the average vocabulary allows. A post on PPRUNE hardly requires that "each time I come on .....". It is an appalling indictment of English teaching standards in Australia and I guess, of the author's opinion that subject matter is more important than the delivery. It is not.
As for spelling and grammar checkers:
I have a spelling chequer -
It came with my Pea See.
It plane lee marks four my revue
Miss steaks aye can knot sea.
Eye ran this poem threw it,
Your sure reel glad two no.
Its vary polished in it's weigh,
My chequer tolled me sew.
Of course it doesn't exclude us, however, it shouldn't mean that each time I come on here I need my English dictionary and thesaurus to keep you lads happy.
As for spelling and grammar checkers:

I just read this thread for the first time. I only looked because I saw that my esteemed friend Whirls had just posted, and I thought: "Oooooo, if she knows about Agustas then maybe she's flying one, and if so, I want to know about it!"
What do I find? Firstly, Whirls hasn't flown an Agusta, any more than I have.
I'm working on it though; maybe soon.
Secondly, it's turned into a long discussion on English grammar. Errrr....why? I read it through; it all made sense. Everyone communicated what they wanted to say quite adequately, and that's what writing is about - communication.
In my other work as a writer I have to check every word - though I don't bother usually; I let the sub-editor do it for me. On PPRuNe, the only times I get upset are if something is incomprehensible or ambiguous due to poor spelling or grammar. This wasn't the case here, so why the fuss?
This is an information and chat forum, not a masterpiece of English literature that's in the running for the next Booker Prize.

This thread has gone along the classic route (as do all these threads)
1. Someone posts a reasonable and polite question but it contains a (usually humourous) spelling mistake or typo.
2. Someone ese picks up on this and has a laugh at their expense or otherwise resorts to name-calling.
3. Someone else will answer the original question ignoring the diatribe that precedes their post.
4. Several "voices of reason" chip in accusing the original pedant of being unfair.
5. Opposing "voices of reason" chime in to give their viewpoint that both spelling and grammar are important and look how perfect their posts are and point out all the errors in everyone else's posts!!
6. Further pedants join in to point out that previous pedants are have used a flying apostrophe where they shouldn't or Oxford commas are SO out of fashion now'
7. The "voices of reason" pick on the original pedant pointing out that everyone is fallible.
Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose

Don't know if you are interested in the A109S as well, but it burns 210-220 kgs/hour in the cruise, at 80/80 torque set, or 230 Kgs/hr with the heater full on. But as you are in Oz, you probably don't need that last figure
It is quite a fast cruise though for such a little heli; 150 kts loaded or 165 kts with just me in it!

. French is, of course, a delightfully illogical language which has, as so many other languages, gender for everything. I wonder who, or what, decides the gender of everything? Some of them are most confusing - but I won't go into that here!
