Mil-i is for inspection mil-c is for calibration , neither of these concern the effectiveness or otherwise of the design . Just that parts have been made and inspected according to the approved technical data and that all applicable test equipment is calibrated .Iso 9002 is now obsolete and has been replaced by iso 9001-2000. Iso 9001 again is for manufacturing not design.

Widgeon,

Thanks for clearing that up for me.

If that alphabet soup that they put out is not really worth much, then how can the be a contender in what is otherwise a highly regulated industry??

Just wondering.

I took this off their site today. Now, I don't have any idea as to what exactly the various standards specify, but I am sure if they work to MIL then they will be working to the same standard as every other item made to that standard....... Or am I missing something here??
These guys have had "Pending" on everything for years. That does not mean a thing.

Onboard systems , Siren and Breeze Eastern all make hooks that are widely used ( sorry if i missed any of the big players ). The only concern I would have using a smaller company would be if they have sufficently deep pockets ( or adequate insurance ) to cover the liability.

Onboard, Siren, and Breeze build mostly belly hooks and have very little experience in remote hooks and their enviroment. Mechanical Specialties Inc. is the only Hook company that has this experience World wide as this is their primary business. They do also have FAA STC and PMA approval for belly hooks. Who do you think designed and built the belly hook on the Kmax when a RHL unit was required for this mission? The logging Kamov, The logging S-61, and the list goes on. None of the others can even come close. The've tried. Read the first part of this thread for an example.
