Hee Hee, Ho Ho Hee Hee..... Just read some of my emails....Got me roaring.......
So they had a problem and some damage, yeppers they were lucky and hats off to the Pilot (flying in violation) for getting it on the ground with no injuries. I sure hope the pilot was wearing "earthtone colored clothing" It really hides those stains in the drawers......."
Rumor has it that FM (will the real G F please stand up) is up to his antics again....... and I guess off to Builders Supply to get some more parts.
Rumors say that the Frelon is also flying PAX (violation) So maybe we should call the CAA?? Actually their ineffectiveness is probably the only reason the brothers Gary are not in jail...... That translates to "The fat lady aint sang yet" or "They'll be Back"
Since that was an H model, Im real curious as to what failed. Cable frayed or pushrod connector depending on which mods........Im sure someone will give it up.....
These Gary guys are good for sure............Certainly bring this forum into the news...which reminds me, did anyone call the newsie noses, maybe they could get some good advertisment for Helibase........Like "Step right up, take your chances, you too could Sxxx your pants. For a few extra rand we will even do a crash landing. No where else in the entire world is this one time offer. (Its not allowed anywhere else in the world)

You were expecting me to not post.get real.

Bert, I spoke to Frans M, GB is down in CPT and the Huey definately did have an emergency, J G apparently handeled it quite well , but it still doesn't change the base line, it should not be flying.

Hope the CAA wakes up now.

its still at Ysterplaat

It is a fact, we were walking out for a GF sortie and were nearly stopped.

The huey has landed!

We were nearly prevented from doing out touch and goes, it is rather close to the runway and the Dak does have a BIG wing, but not that big.

Lets see what happens today....

CAA impounds chopper after forced landing
December 13, 2005

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has again grounded the controversial ex-Vietnam Huey helicopter after it made a forced landing at the SA Air Force's Ysterplaat base yesterday.

The former US military helicopter apparently had problems with its tail rotor.

The CAA has told police to impound the helicopter and instructed the air force not to release the aircraft.

The Huey was carrying several foreign tourists but no one was injured, said air force spokeswoman Major Joy Christie.

Tourists pay over R800 for a "Vietnam experience" in the former US military helicopter for flips up the West Coast and around the Peninsula.

This incident comes after a protracted legal battle between the CAA and company director Gary van der Merwe, owner of the Huey.

Tourists pay over R800 for a "Vietnam experience" in the former US military helicopter for flips up the West Coast and around the Peninsula.

Grrr

Well done JG! I'm sorry it had to happen to you! Unfortunately when one has questionable maintenance history & even more questionable relations with the SACAA, God save them! Then these types of events will happen & unfortunately all of us in this industry are then tarred & feathered for the one. If our AMO must jump through unending hoops, of trivial matters, to stay safe in the SACAA’s eyes but one gets away with “murder” then what is the point of it all? Lets hope that this will now level the playing field once for all, lets all fly safe for our children’s sake. And beer!

Lots of comment, PMs flying all over and all this over a minor tail rotor failure. Maybe next time they can charge double to the unsuspecting tourists and show us all how to put it in a little black spot from a Main Rotor failure....... I mean there seem to be no shortage of South African Pilots willing to tell the CAA to **** off, the license you gave me means S***. Those are your rules, I work for the Brothers Gary.......They have no rules. They do have lawyers though and Im sure they would help anyone....for a Rand or Two.........
So we have threads on almost everything here. The Frelon, The Huey, Eviction Notices, Court Orders and a couple guys who are slicker than a Greased Pig.
Those two should be held accountable for their actions, I can understand Dog Pounder and Latent etc as they are so far down the food chain, its just a matter of survival in Africa. No work, No food.
However with R800 a shot, times God knows how many per day, one can understand how the Brothers can continue to stuff money up the humped over Lawyers backsides and keep this mess on the go.
One more thread maybe should involve your favorite friend in SA.......Yeppers SARS. Anyone call them to see what piece of the pie they are missing...Someone give Sipho a Calculator and Im bettin even he could even figure out that somewhere Thabo is getting screwed out of a new MBZ.
BY the way what has happened to SWFA's Huey, its awful quiet on that matter.....or is it totaly stripped by now.....
Whats next Boys and Girls?:

After a day in the sun with the CAA inspectors crawling all over the machine nothing was found to be out of place.

Mr G. Brombug had the Huey all to himself for a couple of hours before we arrived. His senior, a wonderful lady from the CAA came to take over...i think this p_ss_d him off.

Our friend could not stand the sight of us arriving to spoil his moment of glory. Man this dude is really obnoxious. He even tried to kak the OC out. BIG MISTAKE!

I once commented on how dirty his hands were. Well it turns out that his mouth is just as dirty. So dirty in fact that the OC of Ysterplaat had him removed off the base and banned him from ever returning. What a joke

After the CAA inspection, engineers came out for a thorough check over before it was flown over to the SAP wing.

The pilot did the right thing when he executed a precautionary landing. Well done CPT .

As has been mentioned before LH, all it takes to get things done in SA is money. Im sure lots will change hands in cash to pull the Apple out of the Pigs Mouth.
Nothing out of place..........excuse me, isnt this all about a Tail Rotor failure?? Why didnt you just fly it away?? Someone hasnt paid the right person in the Air Force yet?? Why would it fly over to the SAP?? Is there some problem here, maybe with paperwork, registration or lack thereof? We await your answer.
By the way the name is Broberg, unless your just trying to annoy him. And mentioning his hands are dirty, implies corruption. If you have information like that, you should come forth.

Thanks for keeping us informed.

Bert, you hit the nail smack on the head once again. I believe the 2 Gary's oiled their way( purple paper oil for a Major and Col) in to Ysters with a mackie or 2 and by the time the CAA go there the evidence she was gone, eech, no fuel no money, happy new SA . Broberg did apparently explode, can't blame the man.

The sad thing is, the SAAF is cerainly not the SAAF I was in, at least then bribes were NO-NO's. except where a beer or two came into the picture.

I wonder what the implication may be to civvie traffic into SAAF bases, I remember awhile ago the SAAF refused to allow the CAA into WK to inspect a IL76, their reply was simple, the IL76 being civvie may no longer land at military basis untill inspected, the SAAF turned the corner at break neck to allow them in after that.

Herc 130, just to set the record straight. Mr Gerry Broberg inspected the machine before the owner arrived. You can confirm this via Maj Peter Grobelaar.

The machine was again inspected by Miss Kate Babili with the owner and engineers present. After the inspection the machine was handed over to our engineers to do a further inspection. Again all was found to be in order.

The SACAA inspector filmed the helibase engineers doing the final check overs before flight. Herc, there was no evidence hidden..only David Copperfield could that off in front of the CAA cameras.

Guns my man, I like Gerry, he makes me laugh. He did so yesterday. In fact i was sad to see him go as it killed all the fun.
Just ask Maj Peter Grobelaar ( you should know him) how he was removed from Ysterplaat. Escorted to the main gate and all.....

Im sure Gerry works for the CAA - Campaign Against Aviation.

Gunns,

I have to agree with you, I've known Gerry (Even though he's a chopper jock) for many years and a more standup guy I've yet to find.

LH,

My man, if GB has a problem with Helibase, I have a problem with Helibase. Again, if the SAAF escorted him off the base, what a sad day, and is indicative of the state of affairs in my once beloved SAAF.

I think I wait for the real story?

Well it just makes me think deeper and deeper.

So you reckon Jerry is busy with a campaign against aviation ? ... eischh mate ... then he changed his tune dramatically !

hard to believe ... very hard ....

Herc, and Gunns,

It is obvious that GM has a problem with helibase. I just dont understand the way he goes about doing his job.

After the inspection yesterday he came down to the Waterfront and upset alot of people here. One should be more diplomatic in going about doing things.

Fogive me Herc, i was not out to upset you or anyone else, this is just my humble opinion.
