Short impression of the so called "Kufenrettung" (skid rescue)

Squadron achieved a couple of life rescues with this technique.
No need to discus about winch - too heavy to carry all the time and not enough personal to operate - with this approach the normal on duty crew (even when in flight) can respond at once.

No criticism

Don't get me wrong FlyingBull. But after having some ridiculous discussions about helicopter operations / single and twin- engine / Performance classes in commercial operations I'm just a little pissend off. So here is a little cynical question:

How does your BK perform in the more than unlikely event of an Engine failure?

Hi Spunk,
WE thought about that.
First, all crewmembers went through underwater egress training with the German Navy.
Second, in ground effect power on One engine should be sufficent, to stay manoverable and move the helo to shallow water on the side.
Even with the belly in the water, the tailrotor has enough clearence.
Greetings Flying Bull

A lot of times on a lot of helicopter I've seen skids taking load other way round, meaning vertically down.
So far never seen anywhere for any helicopter any data containing permissible load of skids in that way.
Or is there?

Cool

@311kph - If the skids can carry a SX-16 or a FLIR-System up to 120+ Knots, it should 't be a problem to drag a Person through the water.
With winch, Person on skid is also o.k., I see no problems.

Don't get me wrong, I also think the skids can handle it.

I used to do a lot of work with special ops guys, they love to tie themselves on the back, and stand up on skids from both sides with guns and !!!!, and would always be inclined down more then I would...

I'm just saying I never saw specific numbers in specific section for specific helicopter. We've always presumed it's OK.

...and you will never find such a thing in RFM. That`s the way it is. But, it`s OK.

Lake Louise 5600' ASL. Looks like he had to drain 4.5 minutes of water out of the snowplow before he could make the heavy lift.

One of the guys on my crew put together this video of our season this year fire fighting out of Swan Valley, Idaho... although we spent time in Utah, Wyoming and Montana also. Word on the street, (from another fire video this summer), is that:
"Our day job is better than most people's vacations."
