One of our 300's with the new experimental 'Shortar' system installed.
At the moment this consists of an old cardboard tube and a timed out tail rotor taped to it.

Many thanks to Graeme at Blue Tongue for hosting our nonsense.

Great shot! How are the apaches handling the dust and associated problems compared to GW1?

Yep, did a few of those in my former life. Not in anything as exotic as a 64 though.

Nick Lappos comments
That Sikorsky S-67 Blackhawk (the one-word Blackhawk!) was for a while the fastest helicopter in the world (219 mph), and a dream to fly. The top photo has John Dixson in the back seat (he is Sikorsky's Chief of Flight Operations today at West Palm Beach) and the bottom photo shows Byron Graham in the front seat (he was the Dean of SA test pilots) and in the back was Kurt Cannon (he unfortunately died at Farnborough in 1974).

As a very junior test pilot, I had the fortune to have 2 flights in the S-67 in 1974, when we prepared it for the airshow. It was the smoothest, fastest helicopter I ever flew, and rolled like a dream.

There was an absolutely classic print advert floating around a few years ago. The scene was late dusk, you could just see the outlines of trees, hedges and that unmistakeable silhouette. The strap line read:

Apache. Now there is reason to be afraid of the dark.
