Anyone done Airframes(H) recently?

I need feedback/feedback questions in the subject of Airframes etc (H) under the UK "interim arrangement". I already got my hands on the feedback from GTS.

If you have any feedback that you could lend out or sell, please send me a PM.

I was the first Guinea pig when the CAA changed the questions bank - I went in to the exam and hadn't seen hardly any of the question before. You know what, you keep reading rotorheads and reading Nick's posts and make sure you know the Wagtendonk book inside out and you'll be fine. Also get hold of Mike Burton's book from Pooleys, the helicopter question and answer book. I scored 90% having only seen 10% of q's before word for word....I was suprised to be honest but I knew my stuff ! Good luck, just a little hard work, that's all it takes. For the latest Feedback, you'll have to subscribe to the online bank at www.bristol.gs - join for a month, print out all the q's, cos there aint that many and then cancel.

Happy Hamster, when did you take the test? Unfortunately, I don't think that the Bristol feedback is very accurate in this subject.

REDI, your help is as always highly appreciated. Thanks.

I'll post it here, in case anybody else can add to it from first hand experience (or even interpret what I might have meant).

1. 'The' hydraulic systems diagram (balancing forces) - which Dave calls 'Ulrichs diagram'. Which position does the hydraulic arm move to (4 shown).

2. Heat exchangers and similiar systems

3. Oxygen systems and cabin pressurisation

4. Question on emergency exits from helicopters but phrased in a way different to all of the other feedback questions that GTS had - something to do with an exit either side but the wording was very convoluted and avoided reference to 'doors'

5. Emergency floatation devices & door clearance

6. Red warning lights for engine fires

7. Causes of detonation in piston engines

8. Magneto question (I recall it was the 'switch disconnected' question)

9. Breaker points open causes secondary voltage to the plugs

10. Cooling of piston engines relies on cicr of lube oils

11. Electrics symbols - identify/ name 2 (includes a diode recti/ step up down tfrmr/ fuze/ - fig 13 DC Elecs 12 in the GTS manual)

12. Hydraulics - purpose of the resevoir

13. Hydraulic ram - 10n on one side, what is the resultant on the other (100n) - the 'usual' question

14. Define pre-ignition in piston engines

15. Hydraulicing and oil on walls of the H cylinder

16. Effect of waste gate sticking in a supercharger

17. When to check load on battery (under load)

18. Fuel sample (Jet A1) comes out hazy cause is? Suspended water was one answer. Adding a anti something was another, normal was a third answer (Fuels 3 in manual)

19. What to do with defuelled fuel one taken from aircraft?

20. Passengers in helicopter during refuelling (scenario given)

21. Something about fuel tanks/ tank types

22. One of the logic gate definitions (can't remember the exact type but one of the stock questions)

23. Something about brakes & wheels but cannot recall details other than it was strangely worded and about "..the effect of .... on the wheels.."

24. Type of gas in hydraulic system emergency system

25. Fuel heating & waxing

26. What affects hold over time after de icing procedures (jet blast / freezing fog/ rain)

27. Volume of compression bypassed relative to hot section of a jet engine - 5:1 10:1 3:1 etc

28. What happens to air as it is taken into compressor (pressure up/ down temp up/down combination sof answers)

29. Two or so on autoflight - colours of certain symbols

As you can see I have an almost complete blank pn the elec section but most of the questions appeared familiar from Dave's feedback sessions at GTS and also a couple from the BGS Q Bank.

If you look at the feedback sheet Dave gave/ gives you from an exam in May (from a French helicopter pilot) then this was very close to the exam I sat. I guess there are only a limited number of questions in the 'Interim' bank for this area but only a few people taking the exam, so there must be a lot of repartition of the same questions

Sorry the subjects are intermixed rather than sorted into the various categories as in the exam. Its just how they are coming back to me in waves ....
